YCIS Silicon Valley opened in 2002 as a non-profit 501(c)3 school with a handful of students. It is the only YCIS school in the United States and is affiliated with the Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF) in Hong Kong, a registered non-profit organization. In 2011, having outgrown the Easy Street campus, a new preschool campus opened nearby on East Middlefield Road, introducing a bilingual program for two-year-olds. In 2014, portable classrooms at the Easy Street campus enabled expansion into middle school, and the inaugural 6th Grade class joined in August 2015. The school carries the vision of a Yew Chung global education within an American environment.
YCIS Silicon Valley serves preschool through grade 8 in a bilingual Mandarin-English environment. The school has a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1 and fosters creativity through the arts and music, leadership, service, and personalized growth through small-group learning. There is a legacy of social responsibility that began with YCIS's founding in Hong Kong more than 80 years ago and continues through student service work and community involvement. The community participates in events across the YCIS network, including Founder's Day and cultural celebrations such as the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.
Yew Chung International School Silicon Valley (YCIS Silicon Valley) delivers a bilingual Mandarin-English education for ages 2 to 14 within a non-profit American environment. The program follows the Yew Chung Approach, emphasizing the Twelve Values and inquiry-based learning, with seven integrated areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Communication and Language; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts and Design. The school blends Eastern and Western traditions to develop compassionate, bilingual world learners. Facilities include weekly violin instruction, Art and Music, an indoor gym, and extensive field trips and campus-wide events for families and communities.
