Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

YCIS Silicon Valley supports social-emotional learning through a whole-child, bilingual approach that builds compassion, empathy and a strong moral compass. YCIS students learn with joy, grow with empathy and explore with confidence in both the classroom and beyond. The school fosters a caring community in which families and faculty work together to help students become purposeful individuals. Learning extends beyond the classroom through field trips, school events, performances and service projects. In the early years, Mandarin and English are learned simultaneously to develop language fluency and cultural understanding. Preschool SEL is embedded in the curriculum with monthly character traits taught in both English and Mandarin.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Mandarin and English are learned simultaneously, developing language and cultural fluency. Preschool classrooms use a bilingual co-teaching model with one English-speaking teacher and one Mandarin-speaking teacher. The school's bilingual curriculum is designed to blend Eastern and Western traditions, supporting language development across the grade levels.

Mental Wellbeing

YCIS Silicon Valley emphasizes mental wellbeing as part of its whole-person education, fostering compassion, empathy and a strong moral compass. SEL is reinforced through the Second Step program taught in preschool to develop social-emotional skills. Learning extends beyond academics via Engaged Student Life, field trips, performances and service projects that support emotional and social growth.

Safeguarding

YCIS Silicon Valley is a Child-Safe School and has Child Protection Policies and Procedures in place.
