Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Escuela Campo Alegre opened in September 1937 as The Calvert School, a class of 12 students with three teachers in a house in the Campo Alegre area of Caracas. The first graduation occurred on May 22, 1942, with four matriculating students. By 1945 enrollment reached about 175 students, and in 1948 land was purchased in Las Mercedes to construct a new building. The Las Mercedes campus underwent major renovations and additions in 1954, 1957, and 1969, including a 25,000‑volume library, science labs, a theater, a gymnasium, and expanded athletic facilities. The English‑language international school grew to serve more than 1,000 students from over 50 countries; by 2018 enrollment stood at over 200 students with about 25 nationalities, and ECA is accredited by CIS and MSA and approved to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP).

Community

Escuela Campo Alegre maintains an active community with robust communication channels. Google Classroom and Google Sites provide day‑to‑day information; PowerSchool handles student information, and Campo News and the ECA website store calendars, policies and upcoming events; social media platforms share announcements, and in emergencies information is communicated via PowerSchool, email, WhatsApp and the school website. The Community Education program offers fee‑based after‑school activities—including soccer, ballet, karate, swimming, gymnastics and music—coordinated by an After School Activities team that links parents, students and instructors. ECA parents may attend classes after drop‑off or before pick‑up (art, language classes, yoga, fitness training and Zumba), while Campo News provides weekly updates and event information; the Health Office and cafeteria support campus life.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent Association (PA) promotes active and cooperative involvement of parents, teachers, school officials and students in seeking high‑quality education and related activities. All parents or guardians are automatically members by virtue of enrollment, and the PA works with the ECA administration to strengthen learning and bring the community together. Email pa@ecak12.com.
