Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Lycée Français de Caracas began as Liceo Pascal, opening on September 15, 1952 in the Centre Vénézuélien Français at El Conde. In 1953 the school moved to Campo Claro, and Liceo Pascal joined with the Campo Claro primary school (Instituto Campo Claro). By 1955, the Collège Français operated at Campo Claro and the Compañía Anónima Collège Français purchased the land and facilities. On July 8, 1966 the ownership was reorganized as Colegio Francia under a civil company, and in 1975 the Fondation Colegio Francia appeared, with the land and facilities transferred to the Foundation in April 1976. A new administrative block, refectory, and socio-educational/cultural spaces were inaugurated in 1992, and in 2005 the Foundation bought adjacent land to add a futsal court, bringing the total area to 12,797 m2. The school remains integrated in the AEFE network, and in 2019–2020 underwent major renovations including the maternelle, dining spaces, and sports facilities, while also equipping students from 6th grade to Terminale with tablets to support learning remotely during the pandemic. The school serves approximately 400 students from maternelle to terminale and teaches in French, with some subjects taught in Spanish, following the French national education system.

Community

The school serves a diverse community of around 400 students, with 79% Venezuelan, 16% Franco-Venezuelan and French, and 5% from about forty other nationalities, creating a dynamic, outward-looking environment. Cultural and educational activities help promote French culture beyond the school walls, reinforcing ties with the wider community. The school offers family-friendly cultural programs such as Cine-Club and Gallo Cinefilo, which provide French-language film screenings for children and for adults respectively. These activities, along with school-led events and community partnerships, strengthen the sense of community among students, families, and staff.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parents Association (APE) defends the moral and material interests of parents and represents them in school councils, schoolwide commissions, class councils, and other governance bodies. It collaborates closely with the entire school community to support student success and maintains transparency by sharing reports and updates on its actions. The APE's fourteen-member board, elected for two-year terms, works with the school and external partners, and its affiliation to FAPEE enables representation on AEFE's board and on the national scholarships commission. All parents of Lycée Français de Caracas are members of the APE.
