The British International School Ho Chi Minh City was established in 1997 by founders Maurice and Rosie Nguyen, originally beginning as a small pre-school named Tiny Tots. As demand for high-quality international education in Ho Chi Minh City grew, the school expanded to include primary and secondary levels. The Junior Campus opened in the early 2000s to accommodate the growing primary school population. In 2015, BIS HCMC joined the Nord Anglia Education family, becoming part of a global network of premium international schools. The campus continues to serve as the heart of the school’s primary education pathway.
The Junior Campus community is diverse, representing families from more than 50 nationalities. The school hosts events such as International Week, Charity Fairs, and Sports Days, which bring together students, teachers, and families. Regular open-classroom sessions and performances also provide parents with opportunities to engage in their children’s learning. The community values collaboration and encourages parent participation in both cultural and service activities throughout the year.
The Parent Teacher Group (PTG) at the Junior Campus plays an active role in strengthening community connections. The group organises activities such as uniform swap shops, coffee mornings, bake sales, and cultural celebrations that highlight the school’s international diversity. PTG volunteers also help welcome new families to the BIS community and assist in fundraising for local service projects. Parents may serve as class representatives or country coordinators, ensuring regular communication between home and school. The PTG works in partnership with teachers and campus leaders to build an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment for all families.
The Junior Campus at BIS HCMC serves primary students in Thao Dien, about 15 minutes from District 1. Teaching follows the English National Curriculum with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), delivered in English with French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese taught as languages. Primary classes typically have 20–24 students. Students choose from a wide CCA programme organised into Music/Productions, Arts/Activities/Language, STEAM/Technology, Community, Sports, and Food Technology, with examples ranging from Book Club and Junior String Orchestra to team sports. The campus connects by private bridge to the Secondary Campus, supporting smooth transition to later years.
