Hoi An International School (HAIS)

Hoi An International School is located in Tan An, a residential area within the coastal town of Hoi An in central Vietnam. The campus is situated a short drive from the historic Ancient Town and local beaches. It is also within a commutable distance from the larger neighboring city of Da Nang.

The school provides education for children from 18 months up to 18 years of age. The academic structure is divided into an Early Years Programme, Primary School, Secondary School (which includes the IGCSE programme), and a High School section focused on A Levels.

The school operates as a co-educational day school. It does not offer boarding facilities, meaning all students travel to and from the campus daily.

The school offers individualized academic and English language support at an additional hourly cost, contingent on staff availability. If a student's assessment indicates the need for a full-time 1:1 teaching assistant, the parents assume responsibility for sourcing the aide and covering the associated costs. The school regularly reviews all learning support to ensure it accurately meets the student's ongoing needs.

The school does not have a formal affiliation with a specific country, though it delivers the English National Curriculum and Cambridge curriculum alongside an option for the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) curriculum.

The school has no religious affiliation and accepts students from any faith or secular background.

The school day begins at 8:15 AM for all students, with the Early Years Programme finishing at 3:00 PM and Primary through High School concluding at 3:15 PM. Following the standard academic schedule, students can participate in optional extracurricular activities that run from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday.

The school provides a paid bus service that picks up and drops off students at designated stops throughout the Hoi An and Da Nang areas. Placements on the bus are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and students are placed on a waiting list if the routes reach capacity. The transportation service accommodates children across all age groups, with drivers specifically tasked to assist young early years students during their commute.

Hoi An International School provides a complete educational pathway from Early Years through to High School. The Early Years programme offers both International and Bilingual tracks that utilize play-based learning approaches. In the Primary and Lower Secondary stages, students follow the Cambridge curriculum, with an alternative Vietnamese national curriculum track also available for Primary students. During Upper Secondary, students undertake the two-year Cambridge IGCSE programme, selecting from a variety of core and elective subjects to earn their qualifications. In their final years, High School students pursue Cambridge A Levels, which are further supported by approved online courses to offer flexibility and a broader range of subject choices.

2. Optional Trial Day:
If families wish to see how their child adjusts to the environment, they can arrange a trial day before formalizing the application. This gives the student a chance to experience the classroom dynamics and meet potential peers and teachers. It is a useful step for parents wanting to ensure the school is the right fit for their child.

3. Application and Documentation:
Parents must submit a completed application form alongside essential documents, including passport copies, passport-style photos, a full year of previous academic transcripts, and complete vaccination records. A one-time application fee is also payable at this stage. It is important to note that submitting an application and paying this fee does not automatically guarantee a space for the student.

4. Admissions Assessment:
With the exception of Early Years students, all prospective students are required to undergo a formal admissions assessment. The structure and length of this assessment are outlined by the Admissions Department and help determine the student's academic standing. If the results indicate a need for additional learning support, parents will be advised that specialized services may be required at an additional cost.

5. Placement, Acceptance, and Payment:
Following a successful assessment, the school will formally offer a placement and send an offer letter alongside an enrolment contract. Parents must sign the contract and arrange payment for the enrolment deposit and tuition fees within two weeks of receiving their official invoice. Paying these fees by the deadline is crucial to officially secure the student's seat in the class.

The school offers a highly selective scholarship programme that includes Academic, Athletic, and Arts scholarships for both current HAIS students and external applicants. Academic scholarships are available to students entering Years 7 to 13, while Athletic and Arts scholarships are open to students entering Years 3 to 13. Applicants must complete an adaptive online test and written essay, or provide a demonstration of their specific talent, which is then followed by an interview with the school's leadership team. To retain the award in subsequent years, scholarship recipients must maintain exemplary academic and behavioural standards and reapply annually.

Hoi An International School strictly limits its class sizes to a maximum of 16 students, meaning spaces can fill up quickly and waitlists are frequently utilized. During the initial inquiry stage, the admissions staff will advise parents if their desired year group is already at capacity and if a waiting list is currently in effect. Because applying does not guarantee entry, parents are highly encouraged to begin the enrolment process as early as possible to secure a spot or join the waitlist ahead of the upcoming academic year.
