Montessori International School of Vietnam (MIS) was founded in 2007, making it the first Montessori school in Vietnam. It is the first and oldest Montessori school in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vietnam. MIS operates across three campuses in Ho Chi Minh City: Thao Dien, River House, and Binh An. MIS holds AMS Pathway – Verified School status under the American Montessori Society, reflecting adherence to Montessori standards. The founder and director is Ann Beloeuvre, who states MIS was established in 2007 and has since grown with a strong Montessori philosophy.
MIS emphasizes a close partnership among students, families, and staff. The MIS community extends beyond campus through charitable work with Christina Noble Children's Foundation and Hoa Mau Don orphanage, including regular visits, gifts, and resource support. Families participate in school life through activities such as a Giving Tree donation program for CNCF and accompanying field trips. The school also offers enrichment and weekend programs, including Saturday Mandarin Adventures and various after‑school activities that involve the wider MIS community.
There is no formal Parent Teacher Association described in MIS materials; instead MIS highlights a partnership with families as a core principle. Parent involvement is evident through charity programs such as the Giving Tree for CNCF and Hoa Mau Don, with parents invited to join donations and field trips. Parents can observe their child's class at any time as a form of ongoing engagement. Charity activities regularly involve parents, teachers, and MIS staff, with opportunities to participate in events and service projects. MIS also promotes family participation in events like Saturday Mandarin Adventures and other enrichment offerings, which foster ongoing family involvement in school life.
Located in the An Phu ward of Thu Duc City, the Binh An Campus of the Montessori International School of Vietnam distinguishes itself by using Vietnamese as the primary language of instruction. This campus uniquely integrates the authentic Montessori method with the curriculum requirements of the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training. While the core instruction is in Vietnamese, students are also introduced to English and Mandarin Chinese throughout the week. The facility is designed with specific attention to environmental comfort, featuring classrooms equipped with air purifiers. A notable highlight of this campus is its spacious outdoor garden, which spans over 100 square meters. This area includes a sandpit surrounded by trees, plants, and wooden decking, providing a natural setting for children to explore. The campus caters specifically to families living in the Binh An and An Phu areas who seek a Montessori education within a Vietnamese linguistic framework.
