Introduction

Baobab College is a coeducational day and boarding school in Lusaka, Zambia, offering British curriculum qualifications from early years to A levels. - Refundable deposit (terms and conditions apply): USD 1,500. The deposit is refundable after a pupil leaves provided the school has received at least 90 days written notice, all books and equipment are returned in good condition, and all fees and charges have been settled in full.

Boarding fees and related charges

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Invoicing: Fees are invoiced either termly or annually for parents who choose to pay for the full year. Payments are due before the start of each term. Term split: 45% in Term 1, 40% in Term 2, 15% in Term 3. Payment plans are available subject to approval.

- Discounts: 5% discount for full annual fees paid in advance on or before 1 August. 2% discount on each term's fees if paid in advance by the specified date for that term. A 2.5% discount applies for the third and subsequent children.

- Late payment and administration charges: Fees received after the start of term attract an administration charge; unpaid balances may incur an administration/processing fee (policy example: 6% per term or part thereof on unpaid balances). Students may be denied entry if fees are not paid or a signed payment plan is not in place.

Other costs and incidental charges

- Examination fees (Cambridge/IGCSE/AS/A‑level) are not included in tuition and are charged in addition. Texts, examination fees, ICDL fees (where applicable), school trips and extracurricular activities are additional and are invoiced separately. Uniforms must be paid in full at collection and may not be placed on account.

- Airport collection, flexi‑boarding nightly charges and any specific course charges (e.g., IGCSE/AS/A‑level course charges where listed) are additional as stated above.

Refund information

- The refundable deposit (USD 1,500) is refundable after the child leaves provided the required written notice (minimum 90 days), return of books and equipment in good condition, and settlement of all outstanding fees and charges. Registration, admission fees and capital contributions are non‑refundable. There is no pro‑rata refund of tuition for academic days not attended during a term except in exceptional circumstances as set out in policy.

Fee payment options

- Accepted payment methods include point‑of‑sale payments at school, bank transfer or deposit into the school bank account, and cash payments made directly into the school bank account (in line with local banking regulations). Parents must provide proof of payment; a payment is not considered received until reflected in the school bank account. Payment plans are available only by written agreement and must be approved and signed by the Finance Manager.

Administrative notes

- Tuition fees do not include examination fees. All fees are due prior to the start of term; failure to pay may result in exclusion from school activities and the withholding of reports, testimonials and examination entries. The school's board reserves the right to vary fees at its discretion.
Academics

Baobab College teaches British Curriculum, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel IGCSE for students aged 2 to 18.

Curriculum

Senior School Curriculum is split into 3 stages and prepares students for University admission worldwide. Years 7 to 9 study English, Maths, Science, French, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Art, Design and Technology, Food Technology, Music, Information Technology and Physical Education. In Years 10–11 students follow the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum culminating in examinations; English, Maths, French and Literature are among the compulsory subjects, with additional offerings such as Accounting, Business Studies, Literature in English and Travel and Tourism, plus three separate science subjects. The final stage, Senior College, has students taking three (or four in exceptional circumstances) AS and A Level subjects, with Psychology and Economics added at this stage. A Level subjects include Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design and Technology, Economics, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History, Information Technology, Mathematics (Pure Mathematics and Statistics), Physics, Psychology and Physical Education.

Higher Education Progression

University entrance & careers support is provided, with two tutorial sessions per week; one session focuses on careers and includes university presentations from around the world. All Senior College students are registered with BridgeU for guidance on courses to fit university requirements worldwide, and Baobab College is registered for UK university applications through UCAS. Each student receives individual support in preparing their personal statements and applications from a dedicated tutor who also helps with writing their references.

Admissions

Admissions

Baobab College is a Zambian international school and admission is non-selective and not dependent on academic ability. Children enter a year group according to their age. The Early Learning Centre accepts children from age 2, Reception at age 4, and Year 1 at age 5. Secondary school starts at age 11 in Year 7. The school year starts in mid-August, with Term 2 beginning in January and Term 3 in April, ending in June. Children may be admitted throughout the school year, subject to approval of the Heads of School and the Principal. Entry is conditional on satisfactory completion of the application process: there is an entry assessment to understand current attainment; a report from the child's previous school where applicable; and a declaration of known special educational or medical needs. Baobab is willing to admit pupils with special needs or disabilities if the school can support the child; the Department for Educational Needs provides support for special needs and language tuition for English as a second language. Children who do not have English as a first language undertake a language proficiency assessment. An Admissions Policy exists.

Baobab College has a proud tradition of offering Scholarships and Bursaries to deserving students and families, for the support of our school community and the wider community in Zambia. The aims of the policy are to help deserving and very under-privileged children in Zambia, attract high achieving students, provide support for loyal parents when they are experiencing serious financial hardship, and support families in the wider community who wish to bring their children to Baobab. Baobab College offers The Beacon Scholarship at our school for students with strong leadership qualities. The Beacon Scholarship is a changemaker programme that offers access for financially disadvantaged students to Baobab College, and to top-tier universities in the UK, with leadership training, mentoring, and a goal-setting performance management system. All applicants must demonstrate that they are ‘Changemakers' i.e. they are already making a difference now and have a capacity to take people with them. The Beacon Scholarship for Schools covers admission and attendance, with tuition (and boarding) split three ways: 1/3 School; 1/3 Beacon; 1/3 Scholar Parents/Sponsors. Eligibility requirements: normally resident in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, or Zambia; age 13–18; evidence of strong leadership capabilities in four areas (Academic excellence; Achievement in sport, music, or drama; Social Influence & Communication; Citizenship); annual Gross Household Income not exceeding US$80,000; admission to Baobab College through the Beacon Scholarship is subject to space available. The Beacon Scholarship for University covers undergraduate study (medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences excluded). Candidates must already hold an offer from a Beacon Partner university to qualify.
