Established in 1980, Lycée Français International of Lusaka is the only French school in Zambia. It offers classes from nursery through high school, with nursery starting at age 2. Classes are taught in English and in French by a diverse staff including French, Zambian, and other nationalities. The school follows the French curriculum and its diploma, the French Baccalauréat, is transferable to over 550 schools worldwide. It is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Zambia and is located behind the Alliance Française, offering access to cultural facilities.
Just over 33 nationalities are represented among students and staff. The school offers after-school activities in English and French, and its location behind the Alliance Française provides access to cultural attractions such as the library, art expositions or music. Partnerships with local sports facilities support a wide variety of physical development. The school fosters a welcoming, bilingual environment where students flourish intellectually and personally.
School governance includes a Parents' Association administered by the School Board. The School Board is composed of eight members: five elected from the School Assembly, plus two representing School Management (Head of School) and the French Embassy, with the latter two acting as consultative voices. The Board oversees the Parents' Association and the school budget and long-term strategy, in collaboration with the Head of School and the School Council. Parents elected to the School Board oversee budgetary matters and long-term planning; the School Board participates in school organisation in collaboration with the School Council. The School Council handles pedagogical and educational matters and includes administrative staff, teaching staff, parents, a student representative, and management. Lycee Français International de Lusaka (LFiL), established in 1980, is the only French school in Zambia and a member of the AEFE network. It follows the French Ministry of National Education programmes from nursery to upper secondary, with the French Baccalauréat as a recognised diploma transferable to schools worldwide. Classes are taught in English and in French by staff from France, Zambia. The school educates students aged 2 to 18, with nursery starting at age 2, and a curriculum including: Nursery 25 hours/week across five learning areas; Primary 25 hours/week; Lower Secondary 26 hours/week; and Upper Secondary 27–30 hours/week, with personalised guidance and preparation for higher education. Located behind Alliance Française, it offers facilities such as a library, art expositions and music.
