Uniform: The uniform is mandatory for all students from 1st grade through 12th grade; Preschool is not mandatory. The uniform represents belonging and identity and must be clean, in good condition, and labeled with the students full name. For official events, a tie and blue vest are required; there are gender-specific items for girls and boys and a sports uniform.

The cafeteria offers a daily menu priced at 5,500 Chilean pesos. Additional options include salad with protein (3,200); wraps with chicken, tuna, or vegetarian with yogurt sauce (3,200); cookies (800); muffins (1,000); assorted sandwiches (1,000 or 800); and fruit cups (1,700). The Institute is governed by the Grupo Gestor, a commission responsible for directing, coordinating and promoting school development to improve the quality of school work. The Grupo Gestor consists of a Nuclear Group and an Expanded Group and is democratically elected by school stakeholders for a fixed term, working in alignment with the Leitbild and the school's educational program. It is linked to the Declaration of German-speaking Schools in Chile.

IB stands for International Baccalaureate and encompasses quality international education programs offered to a global community of schools. The organization that governs IB is the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), founded in 1968 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, which sets program content, trains teachers, provides standardized examinations, and regulates program procedures. Our Institute obtained official authorization to deliver the Diploma Programme of the bilingual International Baccalaureate in 2010, enabling us to offer an internationally recognized education program. The Diploma Programme is implemented within a unified curriculum framework. The IB philosophy aims to form socially responsible, informed, and knowledge-seeking young people who can contribute to a better and more peaceful world within mutual understanding and intercultural respect.

Since 2003, fifteen students took the Preliminary English Test (PET) with a 100% pass rate. In 2014 PET became mandatory for all II Medio students; since 2020 the option has been to offer only the Certificate in Advanced English CAE for IV Medio, which is voluntary. Our students have taken Cambridge English certification exams, with results presented on the school results page.

Comprehensive development through life-skills workshops. Practical sessions coordinated by the Governing Group focus on self-awareness, social harmony, and self-care. The end-of-year program emphasizes personal growth and well-being. These activities promote self-regulation, empathy, and positive interpersonal relationships across the school community.

English is taught as a third language. Instruction follows the national curriculum and English language assessment is guided by Cambridge English exams using the CEFR levels from A1 to C2. Students began learning English in 5th grade; in 2009 it was extended to 4th grade with two hours per week. The program covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing using texts provided by parents from SyM Dayton. Since 2021, English has been taught through team-teaching in 5th–8th grades, with the 11th grade joining this modality in 2024. Classes are divided into two groups for the four weekly English hours to personalize instruction and accelerate language acquisition.

Right of withdrawal for use of student images: legal guardians may submit the withdrawal form on this page. The withdrawal becomes effective within 10 working days from the date the form is submitted, after internal notifications. Revocation affects all photographs, videos, and audiovisual presentations of the student for the current school year and the following school year, including the summer break. If guardians wish to renew permission, they must come to the school to fill out and sign the renewal form in person at Administration. Renewal takes effect within 10 working days from the date the form is submitted.

Registration: online from Monday, March 16 to Sunday, March 22, 2026, via the postulation form available at intranet.dsv.cl/postulacion-formulario/ on the institutional site www.dsvaldivia.cl. 2. Online: submission of videos via Google Classroom from Monday, March 23 to Sunday, March 29, 2026. 3. In-person: two afternoons of observation in the Preschool facilities, by invitation via email, between Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1. 4. Evaluation, pre-selection and selection: as detailed in points 4, 5 and 6 of this document. 5. Publication of results: April 6, 2026. 6. Enrollment period: April 6–8, 2026. Video 2: Repetition of words (list provided by Classroom). Video 2 must be uploaded without edits and may not exceed 3 minutes. 3. In-person stage: two afternoons of observation in the Preschool, with observation by teachers, a special education teacher, and a psychologist; the activity runs on two consecutive days between March 31 and April 1, with details provided by email. 4. Final evaluation: videos are analyzed by the technical-pedagogical admission team. 5. Pre-selection: applicants achieving at least 70% of the total observation score are preselected. 6. Pre-selection (detailed): among those with at least 70%, priority is given to applicants with direct ties to the Instituto Alemán de Valdivia (e.g., sibling of a student, child of staff, native German speaker, former student with 10+ years, German national, or from a German-speaking country). If scores are equal, direct ties are given preference; remaining vacancies are filled from other applicants with at least 70%, in descending order of score. If a sibling with lower score is admitted, guardians sign a commitment to provide external supports; in case of remaining vacancies, the team may consider siblings of admitted students with lower scores under certain conditions. 7. Date and place of results: results communicated no later than April 6, 2026 via email and published in a list at Secretariat. 8. Enrollment period: April 6–April 8, 2026 at the Administration Secretariat. 9. Waitlist: applicants with at least 70% who are not selected join a waitlist ordered by score; if vacancies remain after enrollments, waitlisted applicants with higher scores are admitted in descending order. 10. Report: for applicants not admitted, a report on the observations can be requested via email. 11. Educational project: the Educational Project of the Instituto Alemán de Valdivia Carlos Anwandter, including mission, vision and principles, can be reviewed online.

Scholarships: scholarships are tuition rebates for students in economically disadvantaged situations with average grades and good conduct. Application window: December 1–12, 2016. Forms are available in the Administration Office (Angelika Korts) starting November 24, 2016 and must be submitted in person at the same office with supporting documents. Applications are evaluated for students who are actually enrolled and whose tuition is up to date.

Waitlist: applicants who achieve at least 70% on the evaluation and are not admitted will be placed on a waitlist, in descending order by the percentage of achievement. If vacancies become available after enrollments, waitlisted applicants with higher scores will be admitted first, in descending order.
