The Prep School curriculum covers English, Maths and Science alongside Creative Arts, Humanities, Computing and Languages. A Spanish programme begins in Kindergarten, with Language Gym from Year 3 and a Year 6 Murcia residential to deepen language skills. Drama, computing (including Micro:Bits and Python) and online-safety are integral parts of learning, with older pupils introduced to Artificial Intelligence. Lessons are highly differentiated and supported by the Individual Learning Enhancement (ILE) programme, with no fixed sets so pupils progress at their own pace. The school prepares pupils for 11+ entry into senior schools and provides tailored guidance within Dukes Education.
Curriculum details
Devonshire House offers a full co-educational prep curriculum for pupils aged 2–13. In the Early Years, the EYFS framework guides a play-based, scaffolded approach that balances child-initiated learning with adult-directed teaching and focuses on the three prime areas: communication and language development, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development, taught through literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. French is generously timetabled from Nursery, with language learning extended across age groups. From Year 4, the curriculum is delivered by specialist teachers, with a strong emphasis on reading and writing and a study-skills programme to prepare pupils for exams later on. Read Write Inc. is used from Nursery through Year 2 to support phonics and early reading. The STEM and Arts programmes span science, IT and the arts, with science taught as a single subject through Year 6 and then split into Biology, Chemistry and Physics from Year 7, and with specialist teaching in the arts (visual arts, music and drama) and opportunities such as music scholarships and Art Scholars to support talented artists.

Admissions
1 - Book a Visit. The Head of Admissions guides applicants through every step of the process. Bespoke weekly tours are offered for families, with an opportunity to meet the Headmaster and ask questions. For overseas families, a virtual meeting is available. 2 - Register your Child. Registration is open from birth, and early registration is encouraged. For Rising 3s and Pre-Kindergarten, the first to register join the main list and are guaranteed an offer; for all other year groups, a waiting list applies. A non-refundable registration fee of £100 per child applies for Pre-Kindergarten/Rising 3s and £120 for Kindergarten to Year 6. 3 - Entry Points. The main entry point is Pre-Kindergarten in September after a child's third birthday; since September 2025 rising 3s groups offer an early transition. Offers are made in registration order in the autumn term prior to entry. Younger siblings, children of former pupils and staff, and Riverside Nurseries attendees have priority. Casual Admissions maintain a waiting list for other year groups; Year 2+ entrants attend a Taster Day and complete gentle assessments, which can be carried out remotely if necessary. 4 - How to Accept an Offer of Place. Acceptance requires a deposit of £3,000, with autumn term fees invoiced in the spring term after 1 March. Both the deposit and advance fees are non-refundable if withdrawal occurs before attendance. The deposit is refunded after Year 6, subject to any outstanding fees being settled. 5 - Before the First Day. After a place is confirmed, the school hosts events to help transition for Rising 3s/Pre-Kindergarten; these include opportunities to meet the new teacher and classmates ahead of starting. The school aims to ensure the child is comfortable with the move.

There are no taster sessions or assessments required to secure a place for Acorns. Offers for Acorns are made year-round for upcoming years; Oaks offers are extended one year in advance, and children in Nursery receive an automatic place in Reception. 6. Joining Reception (4+). There are no assessments required to secure a place in Reception; your child will be invited to taster events several times during the year preceding entry. Offers for Reception are made in the Spring Term preceding the proposed academic year of entry. 7. Joining at 7+ (Year 3). The admissions process includes a Taster event; offers for Year 3 are made in the Spring Term preceding entry. 8. Joining at 11+ (Year 7). Offers reflect a combination of merit and fit, and parental commitment to the School's ethos is an important factor. 11. Waiting List. If places for the following September are filled, applicants are kept on the waiting list for the relevant year group, and places may be offered to waiting-listed children if vacancies arise.
