Fees

Fee details
Application fees
- There is no separate, one-off non-refundable application or registration fee charged in addition to the school's invoiced charges. Instead, for parents liable to pay the annual school fee (Category III pupils) a non‑refundable deposit of 25% of the annual school fee is required on enrolment/confirmation of a place.
Tuition (school fee / “minerval”) — amounts and year groups (2025/2026)
- The European Schools operate three pupil categories that determine liability for the school fee: Category I (exempt), Category II (contributions under financing agreements) and Category III (fee‑paying). The published standard per‑pupil annual contributions and school fees for the 2025/2026 school year are as follows.
- Category II (per‑pupil contribution for Brussels, 2025/2026): Current contract: EUR 13,452.87; New contract: EUR 13,245.20.
- Category III annual school fees for Brussels (pupils enrolled from 2013/2014 onwards, 2025/2026): - Nursery (pre‑school cycle): EUR 4,370.39 per year. - Primary: EUR 6,009.36 per year. - Secondary: EUR 8,194.57 per year.
- (Note: older enrolments may be charged legacy Category‑III rates set before 2013/2014; those legacy amounts are lower and are shown in the European Schools published schedules where applicable.)
Per‑term / billing structure and instalments
- The school fee is an annual charge. Standard billing practice splits invoicing across the administrative year rather than presenting a single up‑front bill for every component; parents liable for the annual school fee are normally required to pay a non‑refundable deposit (25% of the annual fee) before the start of the school year, with the balance invoiced and due according to school deadlines during the autumn. All school invoices are expected to be settled within the invoice terms (commonly 30 days from invoice date). Interest may be charged on late payments and non‑payment can lead to removal from the school list.
- The school separately invoices routine small school expenses (diary, photocopies, insurance, badges/locker, certain educational visits, and the baccalaureate registration for final‑year pupils); these items are invoiced independently of the annual school fee. For 2025/2026 those small school expense items were listed and invoiced per pupil (examples shown below). The invoice for school expenses and, where applicable, the school fee, is sent at the start of the school year (October–November); payment is by bank transfer within the stipulated deadline. School expenses are fixed and non‑refundable.
Billing schedule and payment terms (practical detail)
- Invoice timing: the invoice for school expenses and, where applicable, the school fee for the current year is issued at the beginning of the school year (October–November). A deposit invoice for the following school year is typically issued in late spring. Small school fees (insurance, photocopies, locker, badge) may be invoiced separately (for example, early January). All invoices must be paid within the stipulated deadline (in practice invoices are usually due within 30 days of the invoice date). Interest on late payment may apply and failure to pay can result in the pupil's removal from the school lists.
- Deposit on enrolment (Category III): Parents of Category III pupils must pay a non‑refundable deposit equal to 25% of the annual school fee by the date set by the school (commonly before the start of the school year). The deposit is not reimbursed if the pupil does not attend. The balance is invoiced and must be paid within the school's stated deadlines.
Boarding fees
- Boarding is not a provision of Brussels European School I; there are no boarding fees applicable. The school's student services list shows day‑school services (canteen, transport, after‑school activities) organised with partner organisations rather than any on‑site boarding provision.
Other costs and fees (examples and responsible bodies)
- Canteen, school transport, extracurricular activities, Friday childcare and lockers are organised by the parents' association (APEEE) or external partners and are charged separately by those bodies. Those service fees are separate from the EURSC school fee/minerval and from the school's small school expenses invoice. Parents should expect separate invoices or payment procedures for canteen and transport run by the APEEE.
- Uniforms: there is no standard mandatory uniform charge listed by the school; routine personal school equipment and book lists are published for each cycle and language section and are charged/obtained separately where required.
- Sibling reductions: published European Schools fee schedules apply reductions for families with multiple children (commonly a 20% reduction for the second child and 40% for subsequent children where the reductions are permitted under the applicable fee schedule).
Refunds and non‑refunds
- Small school expenses are fixed and non‑refundable. The Category III deposit (25% of the annual school fee) is explicitly non‑refundable. Refunds of other invoiced items (if any) depend on the specific fee type and the school's administrative rules, but the standard published positions are that the deposit and small school expenses are not reimbursed. Interest at the legal rate may be applied to overdue payments.
Fee payment options and invoicing practicalities
- Invoicing and payment method for school expenses and school‑fee invoices: the school's published procedure requires payment by bank transfer within the deadline indicated on the invoice. Parents are advised to use the bank transfer details shown on the invoice and to keep personal details current in the school enrolment database so postal invoices reach the correct address. Separate partner services (APEEE canteen/transport) will provide their own payment methods and instructions.
- Timing and instalments: standard practice includes a non‑refundable deposit (25%) followed by the invoiced balance; some local enrolment administrations publish options for instalment agreements, but instalment acceptance and the exact calendar are managed locally by the school's enrolment/finance office. All invoices are due within their stated terms (commonly 30 days).
Contacts for invoicing queries and practical notes
- For questions about invoices and school‑fee statements the school directs parents to the designated school enrolment/finance contacts and to the central EURSC school‑fees information and memoranda. The school issues invoices by post at the start of the school year and advises families to keep enrolment contact details up to date so invoices are delivered correctly.
Fee details
Application / Enrolment fees
- No separate, recurring ‘application fee' is listed. A 25% non‑refundable deposit of the annual school fee is required from parents liable to pay school fees; this deposit is a prior condition for enrolment or continuation of studies and must be settled before the start of the school year.
Note: the school sets minerval rates by admission category. Annual amounts and the per‑term equivalents below are presented by cycle (Nursery, Primary, Secondary). Per‑term figures are shown as the annual rate divided into three equal terms for convenience.
- Category III — parents other than those covered by Category I/II (rates for pupils enrolled before 01/09/2013): - Nursery: EUR 3,566.24 per year — equivalent EUR 1,188.75 per term. - Primary: EUR 4,903.64 per year — equivalent EUR 1,634.55 per term. - Secondary: EUR 6,686.77 per year — equivalent EUR 2,228.92 per term. - Minimum fee (annual): EUR 1,783.12 — equivalent EUR 594.37 per term.
- Category III — parents enrolled after 31/08/2013 (higher band): - Nursery: EUR 4,370.39 per year — equivalent EUR 1,456.80 per term. - Primary: EUR 6,009.36 per year — equivalent EUR 2,003.12 per term. - Secondary: EUR 8,194.57 per year — equivalent EUR 2,731.52 per term. - Minimum fee: 60% of the applicable minerval (per the school's fee rules).
- Special rates for children of NATO/NAMSA agents and UN international civil servants (Category III): - Enrolled before 01/09/2013 (annual): Nursery EUR 7,132.48 (EUR 2,377.49 per term); Primary EUR 9,807.28 (EUR 3,269.09 per term); Secondary EUR 13,373.54 (EUR 4,457.85 per term). Minimum: EUR 3,566.24 (EUR 1,188.75 per term). - Enrolled after 31/08/2013 (annual): Nursery EUR 8,740.78 (EUR 2,913.59 per term); Primary EUR 12,018.72 (EUR 4,006.24 per term); Secondary EUR 16,389.14 (EUR 5,463.05 per term). Minimum: 60% of the applicable minerval.
Billing schedule and payment terms
- A 25% deposit of the annual school fee is required as a condition of enrolment or continuation; the deposit is not refundable. An invoice is issued and must be settled before the beginning of the school year. - Parents who are required to pay school fees will be invoiced for the balance; families may submit a written request for payment by instalments in cases of financial difficulty. Failure to pay school fees in full at the end of the school year may result in the pupil being removed from the school list and not admitted to any European School for the following school year.
Boarding fees
- Boarding is not applicable at European School Brussels II; there are no boarding fees. The school operates nursery, primary and secondary day provision.
Other compulsory or routine charges and typical additional costs
- Nursery (routine charges): school insurance EUR 5.00; printing/photocopying EUR 15.00; miscellaneous activities EUR 20.00. - Primary (routine charges / items that are charged to parents): school diary (EUR 5.00 — 5th year only); school insurance EUR 5.00; printing/photocopying EUR 18.00; Intermaths EUR 20.00; swimming lessons (incl. school bathing cap) EUR 150.00 (1st & 2nd years); miscellaneous activities EUR 20.00. - Secondary (routine charges / items): school diary EUR 5.00; school insurance EUR 7.00; printing/photocopying EUR 20.00; workshops EUR 20.00; student card (chip card) EUR 5.00; locker EUR 30.00 (1st year only); European Baccalaureate (BAC) registration fee EUR 94.11 (S7 only); selected course worksheets or subject‑specific materials (example: human sciences worksheets EUR 15.00 for the applicable year). - Additional optional or extra‑curricular costs (transport, canteen, extracurricular activities, school trips, music lessons, equipment, etc.) may be charged separately as required by the school or the Parents' Association services.
Sibling discounts and concessions
- For families with more than one child in the same fee category: - Category III (pupils enrolled before 01/09/2013): second child tuition reduced to 50% of the applicable rate; subsequent children charged at the minimum fee. - Category III (pupils enrolled after 31/08/2013): second child tuition reduced to 80% of the applicable rate; subsequent children charged at 60% of the applicable rate.
Refund and cancellation policy
- The 25% enrolment deposit is explicitly non‑refundable. If school fees remain unpaid at the end of the school year (or are only partially paid), the pupil may be considered removed from the school list and will not be admitted to any of the European Schools for the following school year. Requests for partial exemptions or instalment arrangements can be submitted in writing in cases of financial difficulty.
Fee payment options accepted
- Invoices for school charges and, where applicable, school fees are required to be paid by bank transfer within the deadline specified on the invoice. Families may request payment by instalments in writing where applicable. No credit‑card payment method is specified in the school's standard instructions for payment.
Short summary (practical points for parents)
- Annual tuition (minerval) is set by category and cycle; the school requires a 25% non‑refundable deposit before the school year begins, invoices the balance and requires timely payment by bank transfer. Sibling reductions apply for successive children in the same category. Routine small charges (insurance, printing, diaries, certain specific activity fees and exam registration) are charged in addition to minerval. Non‑payment can lead to removal from the school list.

Curriculum details
Sustainable development is taught within the European Schools curricula. The school community—students, teachers, assistants, management and parents—is engaged on ocean-related topics, and the two sites share the same project. The school joined the European Blue Schools network in the last academic year, launching an awareness project at Berkendael. The project aims to raise awareness among most students, regardless of age or language section, and to include families. Activities include awareness campaigns, interviews with ocean advocates, and exhibitions such as WWF's Trésors de la Mer du Nord and Greenpeace's Galerie de l'océan, plus World Oceans Day events. The project is subsidized by APEEE and the school is a European Blue School, with participation in European Maritime Day in My Country 2022.
Curriculum details
European School Brussels II provides multilingual, multicultural education at nursery, primary and secondary levels. The Woluwe campus has three cycles: Nursery, Primary and Secondary, and nine language sections: Dutch-speaking, English-speaking, Finnish, French-speaking, German-speaking, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese and Swedish. It follows the European Schools curriculum and offers the European Baccalaureate diploma. In S4-S5 and S6-S7, information booklets per language section guide options and choices for progression toward the BAC. The Evere site runs Nursery and Primary with four language sections: French-speaking, German-speaking, English-speaking and Italian.

The school shares the Citizens of the ocean world project across its Berkendael and Uccle sites. Sustainable development is taught in the curricula of the European Schools. The school joined the European Blue Schools network in the last academic year. The school aims to raise awareness among the majority of students regardless of age or language section and to include families. Events planned include an April 2022 launch event Here begins the sea around the school, an interview with Thomas Lesage prepared by P3 students, meetings between volunteer classes, authors and oceanographers, a jellyfish mobiles competition from 10 to 31 May 2022, and two exhibitions in June: Trésors de la Mer du Nord (WWF) and Galerie de l'océan (Greenpeace).
Admissions
1. Eligibility request via the Enrolments Portal to access the online application form. The link to the enrolment or transfer application becomes available as from 7 January 2025 on the intranets of the European institutions and from the enrolment secretariats of the Brussels school/site corresponding to the first preference. 2. The online procedure is organized in two steps: eligibility request via the enrolments portal to access the online application form, followed by the submission of the enrolment or transfer application once access has been granted. Applications must be submitted online via the Enrolment Portal and, where applicable, attachments in PDF (see Annex V of the Enrolment Policy) within the required deadlines. 3. Language section selection and L1: A fundamental principle is that pupils are enrolled in the language section corresponding to their mother tongue/dominant language (L1) where a section exists; if no L1 section exists, pupils are enrolled in a vehicular language section and attend SWALS as L1. The Director determines L1 and changes to L1 require compelling pedagogical reasons; should a new language section be created, SWALS pupils with that language as L1 transfer automatically to the new section; L1 determination is definitive in principle. 4. Calendar, deadlines and information sessions: The calendar and enrolment procedure are published and deadlines apply for online submission; as of 7 January 2025 the enrolment link is available via intranets and enrolment secretariats. The enrolment secretariats will be closed from 21 July to 15 August 2025. 5. Information sessions and welcome tour: Individual visits or Open Days are not organised due to limited access to the Woluwe site; a welcome meeting followed by a guided tour will be arranged before the start of the new school year. For pedagogical information, refer to the School's website and the enrolment contacts listed. 6.
