2) English Language Requirements. QSI Kosovo accepts students with no prior English experience from preschool through the US Grade 8 level. Secondary students must demonstrate increasing levels of English proficiency through an on-site English language assessment. Older students with little or no English may require additional years of study to graduate with a QSI diploma.
3) Class Placement by Age and Progress. Students are typically assigned to classes by age; traditional U.S. grade names are not used at QSI Kosovo. Placement also considers progression, with minimum credit requirements for secondary levels (50 credits for Secondary II, 100 credits for Secondary III, 150 credits for Secondary IV). Exceptions may be made through a documented process involving the Director, Director of Instruction, teachers, counselor, and parents.
4) Special Needs and Early Childhood Program. QSI Kosovo admits students with limited learning needs. For moderate to severe disabilities, the school reviews evaluations, reports, IEPs, or referrals to determine whether an appropriate program can be provided. Students with needs the school cannot effectively address may be denied admission. The Early Childhood Program operates 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschool; a 2-year-old program is not offered for the 21-22 school year; if a 2-year-old program is available, toilet training is required for admission.
5) Initial Testing & Placement. Transcripts are considered but may not reflect mastery. Testing to establish a baseline in English and Mathematics, along with other subject assessments as needed, informs placement and may include Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), prerequisite course assessments, a writing sample, end-of-year assessments, and other assessments as appropriate. Homeroom assignments are based on credits and age, and parents are involved in discussing strengths, needs, and graduation planning. Final placement decisions are made by a placement team that includes teachers and school administrators and are documented.
