Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

The school runs the Aquila gifted and talented program, offering extension activities and competitions. It hosts extension opportunities and competitions such as the Churchie Maths Challenge, the Churchie Humanities Challenge and the Churchie Literature Challenge. There are major academic competitions across science, mathematics, geography and history including the Big Science Competition, the Computational Algorithmic Thinking Competition, the Australian Geography Competition and the Australian History Competition. World Scholar's Cup and the Da Vinci Decathlon provide cross-school academic challenges for students.

Arts and Creative

Drama and Music are cocurricular and provide opportunities to participate in school productions and ensembles. Stage Crew supports productions and technical aspects of performances as part of cocurricular life. The churchie emerging art prize is part of Churchie's arts activities, showcasing emerging artists. Coeducational collaborations occur in music, drama and stagecraft with neighbouring schools for extended productions.

Cultural and Language

World Scholar's Cup and the Da Vinci Decathlon are extension programmes that bring together students from Churchie and other schools for collaborative academic challenges. International language study takes place in coeducational settings, with students and visiting peers from sister schools engaging in language study. These international and intercultural activities are integrated into Churchie's cocurricular and extension offerings.

Social and Hobbies

Interhouse competitions and carnivals run across the cocurricular programme, providing diverse social and competitive opportunities. Social sport fixtures with girls' schools, such as touch football and netball, foster interaction between Churchie and partner schools. Dances occur twice a year and Senior Formal and the Churchie Ball are major social events for students and their partners.

Community and Service

Service activities run throughout the year and include events like the Sony Camp, where Churchie boys and St Margaret's girls work together to support students with disabilities. Year 9 programmes include cadets and service activities such as local land restoration, visits to aged-care homes and toy manufacture for disadvantaged children. Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is available to recognise leadership and service achievements.

Leadership and Professional

The Year 9 Personal Development and Leadership programme engages Year 9 boys in leadership and development experiences, with weekly cadet or service activities and opportunities to earn the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. Years 11 and 12 leadership development is delivered through the pastoral curriculum and outdoor education, with senior students mentoring younger peers and taking on duties within their house and the School. These programs build leadership capacity across the student body.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Outdoor Education forms an integral part of the curriculum, immersing students in annual expeditions and experiences in nature, with the philosophy of learning by doing. The programmes are developed from Years 6 to 10 to build self‑reliance, interdependence and leadership, while emphasising environmental stewardship. The Vision Valley Residential Programme for Year 9, run in partnership with Pymble Ladies' College, provides a four-week coeducational experience focused on personal growth and teamwork. Students also participate in cocurricular sports including rowing, rugby, cross country, swimming, track and field, tennis, volleyball and water polo.
