Academic and Intellectual

The school offers enhanced learning options beyond the standard curriculum, including a calendar of academic competitions. Competitions include the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) for Y3–12, Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge (Y3–6), da Vinci Decathlon (Y5–10), Engineering challenge (Y10), Ethics Olympiad (Y5–12), The GATEWays Challenge (Y3–6), International Competitions and Assessment for School (ICAS) (Y2–12), Kid Lit Quiz (Y5–6), Readers Cup (Y5–6), Science and Maths Olympiads (Y7–12), STEM challenge (Y5–10), Tournament of Minds (Y5–6) and Write a Book in a Day (Y6–12). The Evening Study Program provides supervised study after-hours on‑campus for Years 8–12 to complete coursework and prepare for key exams, with dinner in the Boarding House. Additional options include Homework Helper (Y3–6), Peer Tutoring by Senior Students, and Senior School Tutoring programs in English, Math and Science at no extra cost.

Arts and Creative

The Performing Arts program features a Dance Company offering Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Jazz, with participation in live performances such as School concerts, eisteddfods and community events. Annual Dance performances include AusDance Youth Dance Festival (Y10), Celebration Day (Y7–12), CGGS Fete (K–Y12), Lights Up! Concert (K–Y12), School Assemblies, School Chapel (Y7–12), Wakakirri National Story‑Dance Festival (Y4) and Winter Wonders Concert (K–Y12). The Drama program provides opportunities through Encore Musical Theatre Group (Y7–12), Junior School and Senior School Musical Productions, Senior School Drama Production and Spring Shorts. The Music Academy offers instrumental lessons and ensembles (Bands, Orchestras, Choirs, Chamber and Small Ensembles) as well as an Instrumental Studies Program covering a wide range of instruments.

Cultural and Language

The school has a diverse student body with 30+ nationalities and over 40 home languages. International exchanges and cross‑cultural experiences are supported through Service Learning, including the Solomon Islands immersion with Marist College Canberra. The co‑curricular program includes activities that reflect the school's multicultural environment.

Social and Hobbies

Senior School clubs include Art Club, Book Club, Ceramics, Chess Club, Christian Connect Club, Creative Writing Group, Melbourne Ave Tech Crew, NEXUS Club (Sci‑Fi/Fantasy), School Newspaper and STEM Club (Y7–10). Junior School clubs include Art Club (Y3–6), BoyZone (Y1–3), Bricks Challenge (K–Y2), Chess Club (K–Y6), Craft Club (Y3–6), Engineering and Robotics (Y3–6), Grammar Green Thumbs (Y3–6), Junior School Musical (Y4–6), Kids Pantry Cooking (K–Y6), Mini Artists (K–Y2), Mini Performers (K–Y3), Read, Write, Create (Y3–6), STEM Club (Y5–6) and Strengthening our Senses (K–Y2). The expansive Clubs and Activities program supports a broad range of interests, collaboration and personal growth.

Community and Service

Service Learning combines academic outcomes with community service activities, with Senior School opportunities including Amnesty International, Community Projects (Year 9 MYP), Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) projects (IBDP), Environment Club, Indigenous Focus Group and Solomon Islands immersion (joint trip with Marist College Canberra). Junior School opportunities include Billycarts for the Alimo Academy (Y2), Community Projects (Y6), House Buddies (Y6), Mothers' Day Classic (Y6), Remembrance Day fundraising (Y6), Sewing and Crocheting for local charities (Y5) and the Service Action Project and PYP Exhibition (Y5 MYP). The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels for Years 9–12; Year 9 participates in Bronze, with Silver (Horse Riding and Sailing) and Gold (Hiking and Abseiling) experiences available. A Junior Duke Award is also offered (Bronze for Year 2, Silver for Year 3, Gold for Year 4).

Leadership and Professional

The Podium Program supports talented student‑athletes to balance training, competition and academic commitments, with mentorship and extra sessions on recovery, strength and conditioning, mental skills and nutrition; open to Years 8–12 and progressing from Emerging to Podium. Debating and Public Speaking builds confidence, critical thinking and effective communication, with inter‑school competitions such as ACTD Premier (Y5–12), Australian Individual Debating Championships (Y7–12), Debating 101 (Y4–6), IGSA Festival of Speech (Y8–12), Legislative Assembly competitions (Y7–12), Plain English Speaking Award (Y11–12), Rostrum Public Speaking (Y5–6), Speakfest (Y9–10) and the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (Y11–12). Senior School leadership is supported by senior leadership roles and structures, including a Director of Senior School (Academic Administration) and a Director of Senior School (Student Care and Experience).

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Canberra Girls Grammar School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18 in Canberra. It is Canberra's first authorised IB Continuum School, offering the IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme alongside the Australian Curriculum. The school operates from two Deakin campuses and Grey Street junior site, with lakeside facilities at Lake Burley Griffin and a three-storey science block added in 2012. Students access facilities for science, performing arts, design and textiles, ICT, and libraries on each campus. The IBDP combines six subject groups with core Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, while Years 11–12 can follow the ACT BSSS pathway. The co-curriculum spans sport, music, drama, debating, service learning and leadership, including rowing and sailing at Yhuuramulum and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The school marks 100-year centenary in 2026 and welcomes a diverse community with 30+ nationalities.
