Genazzano FCJ College was founded in 1889 by the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) Sisters. Inspired by Saint Ignatius and guided by the foundress Marie Madeleine d'Houët, the College is dedicated to Our Lady under the title Our Lady of Good Counsel. Genazzano is named after a town near Rome and is on the site at the top of Cotham Road hill in Kew, secured as an all-girls' boarding school by twelve founding sisters who sailed from England in 1882. The Wardell Building, built in 1889, housed classrooms, the Chapel and the Madeleine Performing Arts Centre, and possession occurred in April 1891. In 1948 Grange Hill was purchased to provide a dedicated primary campus for the ELC and Junior School, with further expansion adding a modern sporting and swimming centre, an information and resource centre, and a Music and Performing Arts centre on more than seven hectares of grounds.
The Genazzano community is anchored by active parent associations and an alumnae network. The Genazzano Mothers' Association (founded in 1941) provides social events, fundraising, family support through a Care Group, and fosters cooperation among FCJ sisters, teachers, parents and students; it runs year-level events, welcome morning teas, the Mother's Day Mass and supper, and the annual dinner-dance fundraiser, with meetings twice per term. The Genazzano Fathers' Association (formed in 1991) brings fathers together to strengthen father–daughter relationships, support personal development and faith, and hosts about 30 events per year, with monthly meetings. The community also includes Genazzano Rowing, and Giving programs such as the Annual Appeal, Generosity for Generations, Bequests and In Memoriam, plus initiatives like Reconnect with Genazzano and GenSwim.
Genazzano Mothers' Association (GMA) was established in 1941 and remains integral to the College; all Genazzano Mums are automatically members. The GMA provides social events, fundraising, social functions, and Care Group family support, and fosters cooperation among FCJ sisters, teachers, parents, guardians and students. GMA activities include year-level functions, welcome morning teas, the Mother's Day Mass and supper, and the annual dinner-dance fundraiser, with meetings held twice per term. The Genazzano Fathers' Association (GFA) was formed in 1991; membership is automatic for fathers of Genazzano students, and its creed is “To Love, Laugh and Make a Difference.” The GFA aims to enrich father–daughter relationships, support personal development and faith, build a strong, engaged fathers' community, and host corporate events to fund College priorities; it runs almost 30 events per year and holds monthly meetings.
