Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

ISWA was established in 2005 with the support of Chevron Corporation and operates as a not-for-profit organisation. It is governed by the Board of the Australian Association for International Education Incorporated and managed by the appointed Principal, supported by the School Executive Team. ISWA is an accredited World School of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and an approved provider of the US College Board Advanced Placement. ISWA is registered with the WA Department of Education and Association Independent Schools WA, and is a registered Australian provider of education and training to overseas students.

Community

ISWA has 400+ students from 61 nationalities. The community is welcoming and includes both local Perth families and international families, with a culture of friendliness, inclusivity, and belonging. Languages are central to ISWA; every student learns a language other than English from Kindergarten to Year 12. Camps, exchanges, and international experiences include trips to Cambodia, Thailand, Bali and Fiji, a Shenzhen exchange in 2018, and a Spain STEM tour in 2019.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent Association is a voluntary and social association of ISWA parents and guardians who helps welcome and support members. The PA has its own private Facebook group for ISWA parents and a SEQTA Engage portal with documents and information. PA activities include social clubs such as running club and movie club, and school events such as the Athletics Carnival, Harmony Day, the Art Expo, Welcome Sundowner, and the School Ball. Parent Meetings are held each term to provide opportunities for families to connect, and Executive PA and Class Parent Representatives serve as ambassadors for the school. The PA President describes the mission as fostering friendliness, tolerance and connections for all ISWA community members and promoting values of respect, inclusion and global citizenship. The PA collaborates with the school to run activities and acts as a liaison between parents, the school, and the school board.
