Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Kardinia International College opened at the start of the 1996 school year, with 40 secondary students arriving on February 1, 1996. The Official Opening was held on April 28, 1996, with the Minister of Education in attendance. The college was founded by Mr Yoshimaro Katsumata and Mrs Kiyoko Katsumata, who served as directors and guided the establishment of a Board of Directors led by Mr Katsumata as Chairman. Early enrolments grew rapidly, reaching about 450 students in 1997 and 750 within a few years. The Katsumata Centre was named in honour of the founders, reflecting their enduring legacy.

Community

The Kardinia Community extends from current students, staff and parents to those who have been part of the College, reflecting its values and ethos since establishment. With international students, the Chiang Mai Campus and IB status, the community reaches across the world. The Kardinia Community Foundation supports the values of the College through its giving back program, assisting with building for the future. Our Kardinians alumni network has over 3,000 registered members and stays connected through events and reunions.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Kardinia Parents - College Community Council (CCC) consists of parent representatives across the College. The CCC coordinates community social events throughout the year. The Kardinia Community Foundation supports the values of the College through its giving back program and helps build for the future. The Kardinians, the alumni network, has over 3,000 registered members and stays connected through events and reunions. Morongo Alumni are part of the Kardinia community, with an annual High Tea Reunion at Morongo House and a Morongo Collection in the Archives.

Kardinia International College is an independent, coeducational, non-denominational K–12 school in Geelong, Australia serving students from ages 3 to 18. It offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for Kindergarten to Year 6 and the Diploma Programme for Years 11–12, with a vertical curriculum aligned to the Victorian Curriculum for Years 7–10 and both the Victorian Certificate of Education option. The campus spans 52 acres in Bell Post Hill, with a second Kardinia Grove Year 5 Campus on farmland for place‑based learning, permaculture and green energy. Facilities include the Goodfellow Aquatic Centre, a one‑to‑one device program, KICOnline and a laptop program in the Senior School. Kardinia was established in 1996, founded by Yoshimaro and Kiyoko Katsumata, and has grown to accommodate hundreds of students. The co‑curricular program covers sport, drama, music and many clubs, including French and Japanese language groups, debating and robotics. It emphasises international mindedness and community service.
