Oakleigh Grammar began in 1983 when leaders of the Oakleigh Greek Orthodox Community, with Reverend Father Nicholas Moutafis, established a school to meet the educational needs of Greek-background families; it was formerly Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College. It expanded through the 1990s with a Middle & Senior School opened in 1991, a Junior School opened in 1994, and a Library and Administration building opened in 1996 to support a full K-12 program. In 2015 it was accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School, and in 2016 the Arrowsmith Program was introduced and the CRICOS license to enroll international students was obtained. The school continued to develop with a 2017 library refurbishment and Contemporary Music Program, Leader in Me accreditation in 2018, Archbishop Makarios's visit in 2019, remote learning in 2020, and the 40th anniversary celebrated in 2023.
Oakleigh Grammar emphasises a strong school community. It maintains an Alumni Association and a Parents Association that welcomes new families and organizes fundraising events such as the Gala Ball, with PA meetings on the first Tuesday of every month. The Conference Centre serves as a large venue for conferences, dances and events, with a full commercial kitchen and a stage. A Business Directory lists local businesses to support the school and wider community, and the school stays connected via Facebook and Instagram.
The Oakleigh Grammar Parents Association is a group of parents with a vision to connect students and families and to raise funds for school projects. PA meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm, and involvement is welcome for events and ad hoc volunteering. The PA also encourages volunteers to assist with individual events and activities. The 2025 Leadership Team includes President: Petros Papasotiriou; Vice President: Tina Violentis; Treasurer: Litsa Mitropoulos; Secretary: Joanne Thalasselis; Marketing: Jenny Kaimakamis & Mary Theodorou. Oakleigh Grammar is an independent, co-educational Australian school delivering a K–12 program that combines the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme with an inquiry-driven Early Learning Centre inspired by Reggio Emilia. The school is an IB World School and a Round Square member, connecting students to a global citizenship program and experiential leadership opportunities. In Pre-Prep, a bilingual Greek language program supports early language development, while the Arrowsmith Program for cognitive enhancement, the largest site in the Southern Hemisphere, supports students with learning differences in small classes. International students can enrol under a CRICOS license, with dedicated orientation, English language support and a Buddy system. The campus features extensive Visual and Performing Arts facilities, a Makerspace, a Centre for Academic Excellence, private music tuition, and dedicated drama and dance spaces. Outdoor education, leadership programs, annual arts productions and Round Square conferences enrich academics with service, teamwork and real-world responsibility for students.
