Facilities Overview

Somerset College's campus includes Arnison Building (main reception and staff offices), Aitkenhead Building (Junior School classrooms and specialist spaces for Music, ICT, STEM and Art) and the Design Centre (Digital Technologies, Design and Entrepreneurship). The Dr Peter Brown Building contains the Knowledge and Information Precinct (library) and flexible learning spaces, while the Suzanne Roberts Performing Arts Centre offers a 300-seat theatre, a Black Box Theatre and rehearsal spaces. The Great Hall hosts assemblies and ceremonies, and the Ray Building provides a dining room, alfresco eating areas, a cafeteria and Somerset Retail. Sports facilities include a floodlit, multipurpose Olympic-size hockey field, multiple courts for Tennis, Basketball, Netball, Futsal and Volleyball, a tartan running track and an Indoor Sports Stadium, plus an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool with two heated learn-to-swim pools. An undercover car park for 200 vehicles and an Early Learning Precinct for Pre-Prep to Year 2 complete the campus.

Sports Facilities

The campus features a floodlit Olympic-size synthetic turf hockey field and multiple sporting courts for tennis, basketball, netball, futsal and volleyball, along with a tartan running track and an Indoor Sports Stadium for year-round training. The Craig Bassingthwaighte Centre is a high-performance fitness centre with a fully equipped gym, strength and conditioning coaches, a multi-purpose room and physio/health services. The Swimming Complex includes an Olympic-sized heated pool and two heated learn-to-swim pools. An indoor climbing wall offers lunchtime sessions on the indoor basketball courts. A 200-space undercover car park supports campus sport and activity access.

Academic Facilities

The Aitkenhead Building is a Junior School facility with eight classrooms and four specialist spaces for Music, ICT, STEM and Art, plus the Yarning Circle and Moses Plaza. The Design Centre houses classrooms for Digital Technologies, Design and Entrepreneurship. The Dr Peter Brown Building contains the Knowledge and Information Precinct (library) and flexible learning spaces. In the Senior School there are Science and Engineering Technology laboratories, an Art/Graphics Centre, a Year 11 Common Room and a Year 12 Senior Learning Centre.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Committees and Clubs offer robotics and coding, Young Engineers, book clubs and Wordsmiths, among others, with student-led initiatives often having a service focus. Outdoor Activities include the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, lunchtime indoor rock climbing on a purpose-built wall, and the Kokoda Challenge. Debating and Public Speaking provides opportunities in competitive and non-competitive formats, including the Gold Coast Debating Competition, Rotary Model UN, Bond University Model UN and UN Youth Evatt Trophy, with inter-house and inter-school debates. Performing Arts encompasses Dance, Drama, Music and Musicals, with multiple dedicated spaces and annual productions involving junior and senior students. Spartan Swimming offers the Somerset Swimming Academy with Learn to Swim, Junior Development, Squad, Masters and community programmes.
