Tara Anglican School for Girls was founded in 1897 in Parramatta by Mary Elizabeth (Joan) Waugh, initially known as Miss Waugh's School and later Tara, named after Waugh's family home. The school relocated several times, including a mid‑1920s move to the Northwood property on Hassall Street and a 1946 move to All Saints Church Hall. Tara became an independent Church of England school in 1956, and in 1958 the Mount Arcadia property at North Parramatta became the current location on Masons Drive, with the Senior School opening there in 1959 and the Junior School following in 1970. Tara's long history in Parramatta reflects its Anglican tradition and values.
