ABA Global Education was founded in 1987 as the Associação Brasil–América (ABA) to prepare children, youth, and adults to understand, respect, and collaborate to build a better world. In 1988, ABA opened its doors to provide English language instruction and cultural exchange between Brazil and the United States, and launched the ABA Cultural project with music, theatre, and exhibitions. The organization introduced an Educational Counseling service for studies in the United States in 1989 and established a satellite teleconferencing system with the United States, with the University of Michigan accrediting proficiency tests in 1990. The Boa Viagem unit opened in 1992, and the groundbreaking for the ABA Aflitos headquarters occurred in 1997. ABA Global Education is part of a global network of more than 100 Binational Centers, with partners including the U.S. Embassy, University of Michigan, Fulbright, Educational Testing Services, EducationUSA, World Future Society, the American Chamber of Commerce, Maple Bear Global Schools, and IB World Schools.
Expanding Borders in English Education: ABA Global Education believes education goes beyond the classroom and seeks to create experiences that connect people, knowledge, and purposes. The Women's Expo ABA, held in partnership with the U.S. diplomatic mission, encouraged women of all generations to participate in science, technology, arts, entrepreneurship, leadership, and English teaching through interactive activities; 200 people were directly impacted. ClimateExpo ABA, also in partnership with the U.S. diplomatic mission, educated visitors for a sustainable future, inspiring, connecting, and transforming their view of the environment; 1,000 people were directly impacted. These social initiatives illustrate ABA's community-focused approach to learning and intercultural exchange.
