Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The school began in 1878 as Deutsche Schule, founded by the German consul Bernhard Staudigel and a group of compatriots. In 1889 the association was dissolved and replaced by the Associação Escola Alemã, which purchased the Florêncio de Abreu building. In 1942 the institution adopted the name Visconde de Porto Seguro. In 1955 the managing association became a Fundação. In 1974 the Colégio moved to Morumbi, and the network expanded with Panamby (1997), Valinhos (1983) and Vila Andrade (2011), with Portinho early-childhood campuses opening in Panamby (2002), Morumbi (2006) and Valinhos (2010); in 2022 Porto Seguro was recognized as an International School offering bilingual and German curricula.

Community

Family involvement is fostered through Family Academy, which promotes dialogical and formative spaces for parents and guardians, focusing on parental education and the promotion of mental health and well-being for children and adolescents, with exclusive content such as books, lectures, and courses. A strong emphasis on socio-emotional education creates a culture based on listening, well-being, diversity, and belonging. Porto Disconnect, created in 2019, promotes offline activities during breaks with daily games and activities designed to encourage social interaction, sports, arts, storytelling, reading clubs, chess, and other club activities. Dialogues Program coordinates collaboration across campuses through the Comitê de Pais (Parent Committee), Comitê de Alunos (Student Committee), and Fórum Entre Professores (Teachers' Forum), spanning Morumbi, Panamby, Valinhos and Vila Andrade.

Parent-Teacher Association

Comitê de Pais is a space where parents participate, with representatives elected by the parents and guided by educational counselors and school leadership. Comitê de Alunos provides a forum for information sharing, innovation and entrepreneurship, enabling students to turn ideas for the Colégio, the city, and the world into action. Fórum Entre Professores is a teachers' forum that fosters collaboration and exchange among Morumbi, Panamby, Valinhos and Vila Andrade to support the ongoing development of the school's pedagogical program. Dialogues Program supports collaboration across the community and strengthens engagement among families, students and teachers. Family Academy and the school's broader family-engagement initiatives create formal channels for parental involvement and student participation across campuses.
