The Basic Education cycle consists of 11 courses from 1° to 6° Basic. The curriculum focuses on language learning; students learn German (6 hours per week) and English (3 hours per week), prioritizing listening and communicational skills. Through songs, games and role-plays, students build on what they learned in Pre-Basic. New students joining this cycle are leveled through an additional workshop until they reach the same level as the rest of the class. The Basic Education teaching team includes specialists in all subjects at this level and is continually supported and advised by Academic Coordination. Teachers seek to harness students' enthusiasm through learning by doing, with activities such as visiting a fair to apply mathematics and exchanging letters with friends at a small school in Chiloé. A priority is fostering a habit of reading, with weekly library visits, daily readings, and a library in the classroom. Sports play a fundamental role in the curriculum, and in this cycle it is strengthened with specialist teachers. Students complete 4 hours per week of Physical Education, complemented by academies and select teams in volleyball, athletics, football and rhythmic gymnastics, to foster the habit of physical exercise from an early age. Students can also access extracurricular activities in artistic, cultural, sports and creative areas, which supplement the Basic Education curriculum and help them develop various skills and talents.
