The Colegio Alemán de Valparaíso, founded in 1857, belongs to the Corporación Colegio Alemán de Valparaíso, a nonprofit organization, and receives support from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. With a focus on teaching the German language and its culture, the school follows the plans and programs of the Chilean Ministry of Education as well as the current norms of the Central Office for the German Abroad Schools. The DSV is part of the network of German schools abroad (DAS). In 2018 it renewed the seal of “Colegio Alemán de Excelencia” granted by the German Federal Foreign Office. The school participates in the global network that includes the Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) and has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) since 2010 (GIB); it is connected to the Asociación de Colegios Alemanes de Chile (Sociedad Teuto Chilena de Educación) which facilitates meetings among German schools in Chile.
The school has a Centro de Padres y Apoderados, a Centro de Alumnos, and an Exalumnos network. The community also includes Acción Social, Medio Ambiente, Ferienheim, Anuarios, Proyectos Discográficos, and Cooperación Institucional; Radio escolar DSV is part of student life. Ferienheim is a second home located in Limache used for extracurricular activities and strengthening community ties.
Centro General de Padres y Apoderados (CGPA) is a group of guardians who work voluntarily, representing all guardians within the DSV community. The CGPA's mission is to be an effective communication channel with the school's various bodies and to promote activities that foster participation and community, aligned with the school's spirit, values and objectives. Activities include Ropero Solidario, Besito y Chao, Bingo (for II Medios), Fiesta de la Chilenidad, Jeanstag (in collaboration with Acción Social), breakfasts for German exchange students, and gifts for Teacher's Day and Education Assistant Day, as well as the Christmas Fair. The 2025 Directiva includes Presidenta, Vicepresidenta, Secretaria, Pro Secretaria, Tesorera, and other posts across the school cycles; contact is cgpa@dsvalpo.cl.
Colégio Alemán de Valparaíso is a nonprofit private school in Valparaíso, Chile, founded in 1857 with strong ties to Germany. It offers the German-language International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (GIB) for Grades 10–12, including Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay (4,000 words) and CAS, within five subject groups: Spanish Language and Literature; German and English as foreign languages; History in German; Biology in German; Mathematics. The school promotes biculturalism through Immersion education from early years and a Humanities program (PH). Since 2015 it has implemented a Competency-Based Curriculum from early childhood through IV Básico, focusing on biopsychosocial development, collaboration, autonomy and meaningful learning. Facilities include a stadium with natural grass and a tartan track, a 25-meter indoor heated pool, a gym, STEM labs, a robotics lab, a FabLab and a library. It is part of the DAS network, renewed the Colegio Alemán de Excelencia seal in 2018, and offers exchange programs and immersion.
