Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Originated from the Jardín Infantil “Mané,” created in the mid-1970s by Eduardo Schott, a biology teacher, and María Elena Gaete C., a preschool educator, which began operating in houses at 2 Oriente 4 and 5 Sur. In March 1979, it became the Colegio Inglés (initially called “English School”), moving to a second house for Basic Education and for medical-psychopedagogical support, with Mr. Schott as Director and Ms. Gaete C as Deputy Director. Economic difficulties led to the closure of the original institution in mid-1982, after which parents and teachers formed the private “Corporación Educacional Colegio Inglés” on July 7, 1982 to take over administration. Following the 1985 earthquake, the school relocated to a new building, and in 1998 inaugurated a major new building as it expanded; in the 2000s it defined a five-pillar project and organized the curriculum around Infant, Junior and Senior cycles. Today the campus sits on its permanent site in the eastern sector of Talca, about 4.5 km from the city along the road to San Clemente and the Pehuenche Pass, on 11.03 hectares.

Community

Centro General de Padres links families and the Colegio, fostering activities that strengthen habits, values, and attitudes; it meets bi-monthly with class delegates and holds monthly meetings with the Rector to share information about activities and dates. The CGPA budget funds teaching materials, entertainment, and infrastructure for students, staff and families. The Centro General de Estudiantes governs student leadership, including a 2025 leadership transition. The school supports an active environmental program with a Brigada Ecológica and a group of parent eco-activists, and offers a wide range of sports teams (Athletics, Basketball, Football, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Karate, Mountaineering, Rugby, Volleyball) and events such as the International Cyberbullying Day and the International Day of Mathematics.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Centro General de Padres (CGPA) is the school's parent association, whose mission is to link families and the Colegio and to promote activities that strengthen habits, values, and attitudes. It functions bi-monthly with class delegates and holds monthly meetings with the Rector to share information about activities and important dates. Its budget funds teaching materials, entertainment, and infrastructure for students, staff and families. The CGPA leadership includes a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications, and Director: President Carolina Aguayo, Vice President Rodrigo Donoso, Treasurer Lisette Medina, Secretary Valentina Gillio, Communications Karis Tapia, and Director Isabel Fernández. The CGPA represents a formal channel for family participation in school life and activities that support the educational community.
