The Instituto Alemán Carlos Anwandter is located at Los Laureles 050, Isla Teja, Valdivia. The Kindergarten has facilities appropriate for preschool students, including play areas, classrooms, furnishings, bathrooms, a kitchen, a gym, and two large halls. The campus includes a gym, a kitchen, playgrounds, and a garden. The library offers grade-based sections and defined hours for student use. There is a Robotics Workshop on campus to support robotics education.
The sports facilities include a synthetic football pitch and a gym on campus. A second gym, Gimnasio 2, is used for ceremonies and activities. Football events are held on the synthetic pitch and in gymnasiums on campus. The grounds host sports activities and events on the available indoor and outdoor spaces.
The library is open Monday through Thursday from 08:30 to 18:00 and Friday from 08:30 to 13:30. The library is organized into sections by grade level (e.g., 1st and 2nd basic; 2nd and 3rd basic; from 4th basic onward). Preschoolers can visit the library with parents on scheduled days. The campus includes a Robotics Workshop (Taller de Robótica) that supports STEM education.
Extracurricular activities cover sports, scientific and cultural areas. The sports area promotes healthy living and regular physical activity. In the scientific area, robotics workshops are offered. In the cultural area, there are instrument classes, participation in the Orchestra, the Children's and Youth Choir, the Instrumental Workshop, and workshops in Visual Arts and Theater. Students are encouraged to participate in up to two extracurricular activities.
The Instituto Alemán Carlos Anwandter, founded in 1858 by German immigrants in Valdivia, serves students aged 3 to 18. It offers a bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) authorized in 2010, delivered within a unified curriculum framework. The IB DP complements the school's German guidelines focus for German schools abroad, with instruction supported by German teachers and funding from Germany. Students study German and English and can pursue Deutsches Sprachdiplom I and II (levels B1 and C1) as well as English proficiency exams such as PET, FCE, and CAE. Beginning in II Medio, three-month school exchange with German peers and two-week joint educational trip broaden understanding.
