Language Provision

Spanish is the official language of Chile and is the mother tongue for most Redland students, with English and French as two additional languages. Since founding, Redland has taught Spanish as the language of instruction in other disciplines, with English as the principal second language and French as a third language. In Pre-Kinder and Kinder the timetable assigns roughly 50% Spanish and 50% English; in Grades 1–4 Spanish is about 6 hours per week and English about 11 hours; in Grades 7–8 Spanish is about 6 hours, English about 8 hours, and French about 2 hours. In the Middle Years, Spanish runs 6–8 hours per week, English about 6 hours, and French 4–6 hours (French is optional in some tracks). The school provides DELF exams for French (A2, B1, B2) and, by the end of the third year of upper secondary, Language B exams as part of the IB framework.

Bilingual Teaching

Redland School operates a trilingual language program with Spanish, English and French. Spanish is the mother tongue and the language of instruction in other subjects. English is taught as the main second language and is the language of communication in libraries, assemblies and with school leaders. French is taught as a third language and external DELF exams are offered; Language B is integrated with the IB programme in the higher levels.

Senior School combines Chilean ministerial requirements with the IB; from Year 1 to Year 2 students plan the MYP and begin Diploma planning, with DP exams or certificates and PSU preparation afterward. Facilities include new libraries, dining hall and auditorium. The school also follows the Chilean national plan and serves up to 840 students, with class sizes around 29.
