Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The American School was founded in 1960. On October 18, 1961, the school was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education. In 1993, the Educational Society was transferred to its current owners, Fernando Orellana Fernández and Claudia García de Orellana (an alumna of The American School). In 1994, secondary education was established. In 1997, the first graduating class from 4th year of high school (4º medio) graduated. Also in 1997 the school began full-day operations and moved to a comprehensive campus in Valle Volcanes. In 2007, infrastructure was expanded under the High-Performance School Buildings model, providing high standards of thermal, acoustic, lighting, and ventilation comfort in sustainable and energy-efficient conditions. The results achieved by students and teachers place the school among the country's top performers in Simce and PSU tests and in Cambridge English examinations.
