YWIEK uses an emergent curriculum that builds learning around children's interests, with teachers acting as facilitators and researchers who support and extend exploration. Learning integrates health, social, language, science and art through an observation-reflection-response approach that promotes active, self-initiated inquiry. The school offers unique programmes to support early academic development, including a YWIEK Adaption Programme for new students, YWIEK Early Literacy Education Programme, YWIEK Early Mathematics Education Programme, YWIEK English Programme, YWIEK Early Music and Movement Programme and YWIEK Early Physical Development Programme. These initiatives complement the core curriculum to foster literacy, numeracy and language skills.
Arts and creative development are supported through the YWIEK Early Music and Movement Programme, designed to build musicality and coordinated movement. The emergent curriculum framework weaves art and music into play and project work, fostering creative expression within age-appropriate contexts. The bilingual, multicultural environment also provides opportunities to express culture through creative activities within language learning.
The school operates in a bilingual Chinese-English environment, with a co-leadership model that fosters a dynamic Chinese and English learning environment and close teacher–child relationships. English programming is part of the Unique Programmes, and language development is embedded in daily routines, including Morning Talk/Language Talk during the day. The school emphasises multicultural exposure and global citizenship through its multicultural setting.
Daily routines promote independence and self-care, and the campus includes regular outdoor activities as part of the day. The YWIEK Early Physical Development Programme is a dedicated activity within the Unique Programmes to support gross motor development and overall physical wellness. Outdoor activities are scheduled daily and guided by teachers, using age-appropriate spaces to foster movement, coordination and physical health.
