English is the principal language of instruction at IST and serves as the common social language. First-language/mother-tongue classes are offered in English, French, German, and Chinese across the school, with Korean available in the Secondary division. Mandarin Chinese is taught to all students at three to four proficiency levels, and English Language Acquisition (ELA) supports non-native English learners. In the IB program, Language A options include Chinese (Language & Literature or Language Acquisition), Korean, French, and German.
IST is a non-profit, parent-governed international day school offering IB programmes. It operates on a large campus in Tianjin's southeastern Jinnan District, with two main purpose-built buildings (Qin and Han) and extensive facilities.
