Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

NBHIS describes its co-curricular activities (CCAs) as a vital part of student life that extends learning beyond the classroom. CCAs are offered in both English and Chinese and cover a range of creative, athletic, leadership and other pursuits. The program is designed for students to explore their talents, develop new skills and achieve success beyond academics. In high school, participation also supports time-management, self-discipline and resilience as students balance study with activities.

Arts and Creative

NBHIS runs an Art Programme spanning from Primary Years to Diploma programmes. The PYP Art course provides hands-on experiences in painting, design, printmaking, sculpture and cross-disciplinary projects with science and language. Visual arts education includes art appreciation, production and critique, with an Annual Art Exhibition for Year 12. The Music Programme offers pathways from early years through middle and high school, emphasizing rhythm, melody, performance, composition and music technology, up to and including DP-level study.

Cultural and Language

CCAs are offered in both English and Chinese, including traditional cultural experiences and global pastimes. NBHIS is a Round Square member, which supports internationalism, democracy, environment, adventure, leadership and service integrated into school life. The Round Square network provides exchanges with over 150 schools in more than 50 countries and hosts collaborative online projects such as Language Labs and History Labs.

Social and Hobbies

Activities are a vital part of NBHIS life and include creative, athletic and service experiences. In high school, CCAs help students develop time-management and self-organization and teach commitment and perseverance. NBHIS offers these activities in a format that often runs parallel to academic schedules, with opportunities to engage on a Mon-Thu cadence that broadens student interests.

Community and Service

Service programmes are central to NBHIS and align with IB values, enabling students to contribute to campus, Ningbo and international communities. Activities include local service within Ningbo and global projects linked to partner organizations outside China. The service ethos emphasizes compassionate action and active citizenship as part of the IB mission.

Leadership and Professional

NBHIS participates in Round Square, which fosters leadership, internationalism and service as core school-life pillars (IDEALS). The North American Programme (NAP) also includes leadership camps and other experiential activities designed to build confidence, problem-solving and global citizenship. The NBHIS leadership team is publicly listed, reflecting a structured approach to school-wide leadership and coordination.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

NBHIS includes planned Outdoor Education to provide age-appropriate experiences across the 3–11 curriculum and.Student camps travel across China to combine cultural, physical and service learning. The campus facilities include substantial spaces such as an Art Museum, a Science and Technology Museum and two gymnasia, supporting both physical activity and wellness.
