The British School of Guangzhou opened in 2005 and is recorded as the first British international school in Guangzhou. It began as a small kindergarten in the city centre and expanded over time to a larger purpose-built campus on Nanhu (South Lake) as it added primary and secondary phases. The school has grown to serve a broad expatriate and international community in the Pearl River Delta. It is part of the Nord Anglia Education family.
The BSG community includes international students, parents, and staff who follow a structured annual calendar of school and cultural events, including International Day and Chinese festivals such as Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year. The school operates a House system, publishes an annual yearbook, and maintains a parent calendar to coordinate whole-school activities and competitions. Students and families also take part in Social Impact and community-service programmes, including a student-led initiative that delivers supplies and assistance to people experiencing homelessness in Guangzhou.
BSG's parent involvement is organised through Parent Support Groups (PSGs) and Parent Representatives rather than a traditional PTA. PSGs run a welcome committee for new families, act as class representatives, and support teachers and school life by sharing information with parents. They organise and help run parent-led activities and whole-school events such as International Day, and they coordinate fundraising and charity initiatives. Parent volunteers also work with school leadership on community projects and practical support for events; the school encourages this structured parent participation through an open-door approach.
The British School of Guangzhou (BSG) is a British-curriculum day school on the shore of South Lake (Nanhu), with a single Pre‑Nursery–Year 13 campus set in a tree-lined, lakeside site. The school follows the English National Curriculum through to IGCSE and A‑levels, and is part of Nord Anglia Education; it highlights collaborations with MIT, The Juilliard School and UNICEF and uses Nord Anglia's Global Campus for international projects and STEAM learning. Campus facilities listed on the school site include multiple libraries, science and STEAM labs, music and dance studios, a theatre, sports hall, swimming pool and outdoor sports fields; the site also notes an average class size of 20 and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 10:1. The school operates yellow school buses and publishes detailed tuition fees and optional bus costs on its admissions/fees pages.
