Xi'an Hanova International School was founded in 2012 as a community-driven, not-for-profit institution. It is supported by regional government authorities. It is an IB Continuum School authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (since 2017), the Middle Years Programme (since 2016) and the Diploma Programme (since 2014), with 20 Diploma subjects available. The initial campus was located on Xi'an's West Third Ring Road. The Chanba Campus opened in August 2021 to accommodate growth and includes Primary and Secondary buildings, a Sports Center, and on-campus staff housing.
Hanova fosters an internationally-minded community. The school hosts an annual International Day to celebrate cultural diversity with participation from staff, students and parents. Every May, Year 5 students travel to the Foping Nature Reserve for an Education Outside the Classroom activity.
The Hanova Parent-Teacher Association (HPTA) is an integral and supportive part of the school community. The HPTA exists as a non-profit, service-minded group of parents and teachers who bring ideas, time and energy into school life. The HPTA aims include supporting the mission and core values, safeguarding and enhancing the school's public standing, fostering links between staff, parents, students and others, supporting school events and achievements, raising funds, and organizing events during the school year. HPTA meetings are typically conducted in English, with translation (verbal and/or visual) provided in Chinese and Korean as needed. HPTA-supported events include Christmas Market/Winter Concert, International Day, New Family Welcome Committee, Community Wellbeing Committee, Athletics Booster Club, Coffee with the Principal, and language/culture exchange activities. Parents can contact the School Principal's Office to inquire about joining.
