Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

YCIS Chongqing was founded in 2001 as the first international school in Chongqing registered with the Ministry of Education. It is part of the Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF), a network of YCIS/YCYW campuses that includes Shanghai, Qingdao, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Silicon Valley in California, USA. The school operates with a Western and Chinese co-leadership model. In 2016, YCIS Chongqing achieved formal accreditation by NEASC, CIS, and Cambridge International Examinations. By 2017 the school had more than 400 enrolled students.

Community

YCIS Chongqing has a culturally diverse community with students from over 26 nationalities. The campus fosters cross-cultural learning through a bilingual English–Mandarin environment and a range of cultural activities, including Chinese language and culture programs and intercultural performances. Events such as Book Week involve buddy reading, book swaps, and a central Book Fair. The school participates in global YCIS/YCYW Founder's Day celebrations across campuses.

Parent-Teacher Association

YCIS Chongqing has a Parent Organisation that partners with the school to support student learning and campus life. The PO coordinates parent involvement in campus events such as the Secondary Holiday Spectacular. The Seeds of Hope fundraising program is run with the involvement of the PO; the inaugural YCYW 90th Anniversary Gala Night in March 2023 raised funds for Seeds of Hope. The 2024 Parent Retreat demonstrates active parent education and engagement. Book Week and parent reading sessions show ongoing parental involvement, including decorations and exhibitions. The PO participates in global YCIS Founder's Day observances across campuses.
