From 1st grade, students have the option to stay at the School after classes to participate in Extracurricular Activities, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Fridays from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. This after‑school offering is available as part of the school's extracurricular program and may incur an additional cost.
From 1st grade, students wear the school uniform daily; 12th grade students may wear a blazer to identify them as the final grade. In Preschool, students wear different attire (two sets of clothing, boots for Naturtag, and Hausschuhe slippers for classroom use).
The school provides lunch from Monday to Thursday with normal and vegetarian options, including options across protein, carbohydrates, hot vegetables, soup, a fruit/vegetable bar, desserts with reduced sugar, juices, and flavored waters; menus are designed by the chef and approved by nutritionists. The school runs an organic garden with over 30 varieties of vegetables and fruits used in cooking, and students can visit the garden for practical learning in classes.
In Bachillerato, there are Schulmanschaften (houses) for students to be integrated across different grades, similar to the house model used in other schools.
The school is part of the global network of German schools abroad (DAS) and is associated with PASCH, Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule, WDA, and KMK. The school is governed by the Alejandro von Humboldt Cultural Corporation (a non‑profit organization), which took over management after the Deutscher Schulverein's assets were returned in 1948; the German government provided support from the beginning.
Colombia's Colegio Andino – Deutsche Schule is an international school in Bogotá serving ages 3 to 17 with a trilingual program in Spanish, German and English. The curriculum blends German standards with a Colombian diploma, with the option to pursue the German Abitur. From early years, English immersion begins in first grade as German and Spanish instruction continues, with Sprachdiplom and Cambridge exams. The school maintains a German affiliation and hosts an Office for German Affairs, reflecting its bicultural mission. Graduates leave with the Colombian diploma and, if desired, the German Abitur. The campus houses three libraries for Kindergarten, Elementary and High School, plus a Digital Classroom Program and a House of Formation for development and internships. With class sizes around 20 and facilities for sports, music and the arts, the school supports a wide range of extracurricular activities—over 60 offerings, including Model UN (DESMUN), Jugend Debattiert, theater, and exchange programs. In 2008 it earned the designation Excellent German School Abroad.
