Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school prioritizes student welfare as part of social and emotional learning. A Wellbeing lead was appointed in 2017 to promote wellbeing, prevent abuse and negligence, and intervene in safeguarding cases. The safeguarding team includes the Designated Safeguarding Lead, a Deputy, and key staff across Preschool, Primary, and Secondary to support student welfare. Strategies for parents, teachers, and students foster relationships and a learning environment where students feel safe and secure. A Safeguarding Policy and Procedures Manual, trainings, a team directory, and a reporting tool are available within the community.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Learner variability and diversity are embraced through inclusion within the curriculum. All teachers differentiate to meet the needs of learners, and committees identify students who require language support through the Educational Support department. A Multi-Tier System of Support provides differentiated instruction, remedial literacy interventions, and other support services. Spanish as an Additional Language (SAL) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) programmes support newcomers and language learners. Language provision across the IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP) is structured to respond to learners' language needs with data-driven planning.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The main languages of instruction are English and Spanish, with provision for a third language in the MYP. The school actively promotes bilingualism and multilingualism to develop linguistic skills and global citizenship. Spanish as an Additional Language (SAL) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) programmes support students who arrive with limited proficiency in the school languages. New learners of Spanish may be pulled out for SAL instruction and receive differentiated classroom support. The IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP) provide the language framework for learning, with a bilingual library environment supporting English and Spanish resources.

Mental Wellbeing

Student welfare and wellbeing are central to the school's approach to social and emotional learning. A Wellbeing lead was appointed in 2017 to promote wellbeing, prevent abuse and intervene in safeguarding cases. The safeguarding team includes the Designated Safeguarding Lead, a Deputy, and key pastoral and learning-support staff across Preschool, Primary, and Secondary. Strategies for parents, teachers, and students foster relationships and a safe learning environment. The school provides safeguarding policies, protocols, manuals, trainings, a team directory, and a reporting tool for concerns, along with a Wellness Programme and Socio-Emotional Counsellors to support mental wellbeing.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is governed by a Safeguarding Policy and Procedures Manual, with additional manuals covering online safety and behavior. The safeguarding team is led by the Designated Safeguarding Lead with a Deputy, complemented by a broad network of staff across Preschool to Secondary. The safeguarding framework includes protocols, trainings, and a reporting tool for concerns within the Anglo community. A Wellness Programme supports safeguarding and student protection, alongside a dedicated team of Socio-Emotional Counsellors. Resources and updated child-protection bibliography are provided for ongoing learning and safeguarding practice.
