Academic and Intellectual

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) is central to the upper levels, delivered in a multilingual format (GIB) with German, Spanish and English as core languages and some subjects taught in German (e.g., Mathematics, Biology, History). In Klasse 9, Deutsches Sprachdiplom I (DSD I, level B1) is presented, and in Klasse 10 students undertake a six-month academic trip to Germany to strengthen language skills, followed by Deutsches Sprachdiplom II (DSD II, level B2/C1) in Klasse 11. The Diploma Programme culminates with IB exams, offering a pathway to a double degree through a multilingual core and chosen profiles.

Arts and Creative

The school offers a holistic education with special emphasis on art, music and sport. Cultural and artistic activities are promoted through exchanges and the staging of musical works with other schools in the Aburrá Valley. Field trips focused on higher education and art in its various expressions are programmed.

Cultural and Language

The Office of International Affairs coordinates intercultural work and maintains relationships with Germany through institutions such as the German Embassy, DAAD and other partners. Beginning in kindergarten, students are engaged with German language and culture, and Klasse 6 includes a three‑week academic and cultural trip to Germany. In Klasse 10, students undertake a six‑month to one‑year academic trip in Germany to strengthen language skills, followed by preparation for the Deutsches Sprachdiplom II (DSD II) in Klasse 11, within a multilingual IB framework.

Social and Hobbies

From Prekindergarten to Klasse 12, Sports is a subject in the curriculum, with instruction in German through Klasse 4. Emphasis is placed on track and field, volleyball, swimming and basketball, and school delegations participate in the National Games and the Humboldt Games. Cultural, academic and sports exchanges include the staging of musical works with Aburrá Valley schools and field trips focused on higher education and art.

Community and Service

The Environmental and Cultural Training Project in Isla Fuerte (Colombia) gives students the opportunity to share and develop social projects with local children and to carry out activities such as diving.

Deutsche Schule Medellín is a nonprofit German international school in Medellín, sponsored by the German government and part of the German Schools Abroad network (ZfA). It is an IB World School serving ages 1 to 18 (Prekinder to Klasse 12) in a multilingual German-Spanish-English environment.
