El Camino Academy (ECA) was started in 1980 by North American Christian missionaries who wanted an American curriculum at a moderate cost and with biblical values. It began as a non-profit association called Asociación El Camino Real – El Camino Academy for the children of foreign families, and adopted the motto Training for Life with Deuteronomy 6:5-7 as guiding verses. ECA opened with 25 students and 3 teachers for grades 1–7 in a church in Bogotá, later moving to multiple rented houses in the Pontevedra area as it grew; it earned international accreditation from ACSI in 1999. In 2000, Asociación Educando con Cristo was formed and recognized as the legal entity in charge of managing the school; by 2024 the school served about 440 students in PreKinder–12 with nearly 50 teachers and emphasized bilingual skills, discipleship, service, and leadership.
ECA maintains an active, engaged community with regular events and student activities. Upcoming events include Secret Church on April 17, 2026; Live Spanish on April 23, 2026; and Battle of the Books on May 8, 2026. In 2021-22, more than 90 students and staff participated in mission trips during Holy Week, reaching out to diverse regions and people groups within Colombia. Students also participate in Model United Nations, speech contests, spelling contests, and friendly sports matches.
El Camino Academy is an interdenominational Christian school in Bogotá offering an American-style Pre-K through 12 curriculum with AP options. The program uses a U.S.-based framework through high school, with an option to meet Colombian diploma requirements. Bible, physical education, and fine arts are integrated for all students. AP preparation is available based on student interest and staffing. Secondary class periods are 45 minutes; most core subjects meet five times weekly, while Bible, PE, and electives meet two to four times weekly. All graduates receive both American and a Colombian high school diploma. Founded in 1980 by North American missionaries, ECA has held ACSI accreditation since 1999. The 1.15-acre campus on Bogotá's northern edge houses a library with over 20,000 volumes (90% in English), a science lab, and dedicated art and music spaces. Extracurriculars include a broad sports program and En Sus Manos Music Academy, and a revived ECA Band.
