The Liceo Inglés Foundation (FLI) was established in 1986 by a group of Pereiran parents seeking bilingual English-language education for their children. The school started with 95 families and 96 students. The bilingual program was organized in 1993, and in 1994 certified teachers from Canada began joining the staff each year. In 1996 the Liceo Inglés applied for accreditation with SACS and ACCAS; FLI became the tenth school in the country to receive international accreditation from SACS/CASI and the first in the city to achieve this, facilitating graduates' enrollment in American universities and other internationally renowned institutions. Since 1990 the school has had its own rural campus and has pursued a development plan that includes facilities and growth in academic programs and institutional life, contributing to the well-being of the educational community.
The Liceo Inglés runs a broad program of community events for students and families, including Simposio, a parents' symposium with external speakers, and FLIMUN, the Model United Nations led by students with parental sponsorship. The portfolio of events includes celebrations of the school anniversary and grade transitions such as Step Forward for early grades, and ceremonies for Elementary-to-Middle and Middle-to-High promotions, as well as sports and pedagogical outings funded by families. Other events include Soundwave Festival, NHS ceremonies, alumni gatherings, Grandparents' Day, Thanksgiving for staff, Christmas gatherings, Show de Luces y Colores for Elementary, and the Arts Society festival, with external convivencias and Summer Camp; Open House and New Family Orientation welcome new families. Family involvement is central to the calendar, with many events organized or supported by parents and designed to strengthen the sense of community.
The Parents Council is formed by parents from different grades, with representatives for each class. It may modify its internal regulations and assist the Rector or Director in analyzing, disseminating, and using the results of competency evaluations and ICFES exams. It supports artistic, scientific, technical, and sporting activities to improve student competencies, including citizenship and the culture of legality. It participates in the development of improvement plans and promotes parental training to support learning, reinforce study habits, and defend children's rights. It fosters a climate of trust, understanding, integration, solidarity, and collaboration within the school community and elects two parent representatives to the Board of Directors. The Rector provides the necessary information to enable the Parents Council to fulfill its functions, and the Council operates in direct coordination with the Rector/Director, requiring express authorization for responsibilities that commit the institution.
