History

The Marymount Barranquilla School was founded in 1953 by the Congregation of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, in a private house in a residential area of the city, at the request of alumnae living in the city who had graduated from Marymount schools around the world. With time and the involvement of parents, the facilities grew as the student body expanded. Today, Marymount Barranquilla is an educational institution approved by the Ministry of Education of Colombia (Resolution No. 00487, April 4, 2003) and internationally accredited by NEASC (May 13, 2010) and CIS (April 29, 2011), at Preschool, Elementary and High School levels.

Community

Marymount Barranquilla is a Catholic-based learning community that offers an educational experience developing students able to pursue a transformative life project in a globalized society. With the support and engagement of the entire Marymount Community, every member's role helps fulfill the school's mission. The campus serves Preschool in Barranquilla and Elementary and High School at Km 5 Vía Sabanilla, Puerto Colombia. The school counts 1,228 students, more than 12,500 graduates, 161 teachers and 810 families. It maintains a child-protection program aligned with CIS ethics, including a confidential reporting button that opens a secure form to report concerns, kept confidential and investigated under the school's protocols and applicable law. Parent-Teacher Association

Asopadres is the Marymount Barranquilla Parent Association. Entre Papás is an initiative created and supported by Asopadres to generate learning in the community, based on reading articles about education, shared in a 12-person, trusted, and respectful discussion circle. The group is directed to parents who share the same interests in helping their children grow with home-based foundations to meet current challenges. Marymount Barranquilla is a bilingual Catholic day school with a history dating to 1953. The campus network includes a Preschool in Barranquilla and a site in Sabanilla, offering modern science laboratories, a library, and dedicated spaces for music, dance, art, and theatre. The school has a 25-meter swimming pool, a coliseum for volleyball and basketball, and a knowledge and technology center to support projects. The curriculum blends national and international standards. Since 2019, Cambridge courses in English, Science and Mathematics have been taught; English Social Studies follows the AERO Standards; French follows CEFR; Physical Education follows NASPE; Art uses NAfME; Library uses AASL; Technology develops ISTE standards; Religion aligns with the Episcopal Conference. Instruction is bilingual (English and Spanish) from early years. In high school, students may pursue Advanced Mathematics and Engineering, Advanced Biology and Science, or Advanced Economics, Humanities and Arts. The NOVA program provides personalized options for achievers.
