The school was founded in 1958 by Mrs. Mary Allen de Acosta, a British citizen, based on British principles. In 1959 it moved to Calle 77 with Carrera 7, and by 1967 relocated to its current Suba location, with the entire school in Suba by 1968. The high school program was introduced in 1964, and the first high school graduates occurred in 1971; the Cambridge Curriculum was introduced in 2012 for pre-school and primary. The school has earned notable honors, including the Camilo Torres Civic Medal (1982) and the Andrés Bello Honor Diploma (1981–85); in 2018 the 60th anniversary was celebrated and the headmaster received the Simón Bolívar Award. In 2020 the school received a Distinction from Sapiens Research and EFQM 4-star accreditation, and the preschool building was inaugurated in 2017, with distance learning implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The campus operates as a nature reserve, featuring a savannah wetland and large areas of high Andean forest, with 208 plant species and 35 bird species identified. The SGS community emphasizes leadership, learning and global citizenship, with voices from students and teachers shaping a collaborative culture. Head Prefect 2025 Alejandro Echeverría Grijalba notes that leadership is about listening and growth through shared experiences, and that the school inspires courage to dream without limits. Science Teacher Camila Zborovszky describes science education as connecting biology to real-world issues like health, environment and biodiversity, while English Teacher Reuben Crighton highlights SGS's focus on developing language skills to a high standard and nurturing resourceful, determined students.
Saint George's School in Bogota is a British bilingual Cambridge International School serving ages 4 to 18. The curriculum is Cambridge International for Primary and Secondary, delivered in English and French with Spanish as the mother tongue; English begins in pre-kindergarten and French in grade 3, with DELF B2 achievable on graduation. The school joined Cambridge International in 2012 and maintains a Cambridge affiliation through collaborations with Cambridge University Press and Assessment since 2021.
