Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The School Counselling Department provides personalised pastoral care whenever needed and offers counselling and support by psychologists for the emotional health and wellbeing of pupils. Group Programmes include Values, Healthy Coexistence, Life Skills, Sex Education, Prevention of the Consumption of Psychoactive Substances (CONSENTIDOS), Projects and Meaning of Life, Professional Orientation (Grade 9–11), and Emotional Intelligence, addressed through group sessions and cross-curricular activities. The Human Development and Socio-emotional Skills Committee brings together the Food Service, Medical Service, CADI, ERE, Social Work, Sports and Communications to promote a Healthy Lifestyle and run campaigns and programmes focused on the comprehensive development of pupils. The school emphasises socio-emotional skill development as a central element of its educational approach, with ongoing programmes to support pupils' social and emotional growth. The development of values and character is fostered through pastoral care and group supports.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Academic Support (Reinforcement) provides extra lessons for pupils who need help in certain subjects and to prevent difficulties in the teaching-learning process. Individual development, motivation and learning styles are taken into account. In Pre-school, activities ensure an appropriate academic level in Spanish, English and Maths, delivered during school hours or via guided homework. In Primary, pupils can receive extra lessons in English, Spanish and Maths from their subject teachers, with Saturdays' Maths Club run by Grade 9 pupils. In Bachillerato, the curriculum includes math, English, Spanish, physics, French, history and geography (6th grade), natural sciences (7th-8th), and biology (9th-10th).

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

SGS teaches Spanish, English and French with reading, writing and oral presentation skills developed in all three languages. Spanish and English are taught as international academic languages, with the objective that pupils can pursue study and work in either or both languages; French is taught as a foreign language. Pupils begin learning English in Pre-kinder and French in 3rd grade, and pupils graduate with a B2 DELF level, enabling the option to apply to French universities.
