AIS provides after-school activities and field trips that broaden learning beyond the classroom. The after-school program includes MUN, which develops research, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. Field trips take students to national theaters, museums, volcanoes, waterfalls, and other culturally and scientifically significant locations, reinforcing classroom learning. Camps in elementary through high school emphasize teamwork, self-confidence, and experiential learning.
The school offers after-school arts and creative programs including Acting club, Choir, Guitar, Percussion Ensemble, Art, and Needle Felting. The National Honor Society (NHS) highlights scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The NHS chapter supports local community organizations including Hogar Montiel, Fundación Cuidados Paliativos de Belén, and Fundación Hogar para Ancianos Alfredo and Delia Gonzales.

American International School of Costa Rica (AIS) is a private, co-educational, non-profit day school serving ages 3 through 18 in Heredia, near San José.
