Colegio de Bagaces is a public day school in Bagaces, Guanacaste, Costa Rica that serves local families and international-minded students. Since 2012 it has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) alongside Costa Rica's National Plan. The Diploma comprises six subjects: Higher Level courses in Literature, History and Digital Society; Standard Level courses in Biology, English and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation; plus the core components Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS); Theory of Knowledge (ToK); and the Extended Essay (EE). In the first year, Costa Rica's National Program requirements—Social Studies and Civics Education—are integrated into the curriculum. The IB Learner Profile emphasizes ten attributes: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and Reflective. Teaching uses dynamic, participatory classrooms with teachers guiding and students leading learning; assessment combines formative in-class work, Internal Assessments and External DP examinations, with a minimum of 24 points for the Diploma and a formal equivalence process to the Costa Rican National Program. Founded in 1968, the school is administratively part of Circuit 03 of the Liberia Regional Education Directorate and hosts additional programs such as Marco Tulio Salazar Virtual National School, Bagaces Night School, and the Open Education Program.
