Matija Gubec International School offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for preschool to Grade 4 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grade 5 to 8. The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The PYP uses six transdisciplinary themes and emphasises five essential elements: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action. MYP provides a framework of academic challenge through eight subject groups and criterion-related assessment. The school provides academic enrichment through a STEM Club, Reading Club, Journalist Group and extra maths support.
Choir sessions run on Thursdays (13:10–13:55). Co-Art Creative Studio offers multiple weekly sessions (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Friday). Extra Sport supports physical activity. Stage Management supports event production with weekly sessions (Tue 14:00–14:45; Wed 14:50–15:35). Piano sessions occur on Fridays (14:00–14:45) and Thursdays (14:00–14:45). The Journalist Group and Reading Club foster writing, media and literacy skills.
Celebrating Home Languages on International Mother Language Day showcases linguistic and cultural diversity, with parents and students contributing through presentations. World Read Aloud Day 2026 celebrated reading aloud and language appreciation. Host Country Studies engage students in learning about the host country and its language context.
Grow Getters (Gardening) runs on a regular timetable, providing an outdoor, hands-on activity. Reading Club meets in the library, and a Piano program and Choir contribute to social and cultural engagement. Students also participate in Journalist Group and other clubs which foster social interaction and collaborative hobbies.
Community Project (Društveno-korisni projekt) is an integral part of the MYP; upon completing the final year of the MYP, students undertake the Community Project to develop active, responsible, civic-minded individuals and promote lifelong learning. Each project is mentored by teachers, and can be undertaken individually or in groups up to three students. Mentors for the Community Project include Mirna Krajačić, Gordana Jerkić, Marina Matanović Marević, Marko Korbar, Ana Tkalec, and Linda Zelić.
Leadership and professional skills are developed through student-led activities such as Stage Management and Journalist Group. Service as Action is part of the IB framework, guiding students to apply learning in real-world contexts. For the Community Project, teachers mentor students and oversee project design, implementation and evaluation.
Extra Sport provides structured physical activity (MYP0/MYP1 Mon 14:00–14:45; MYP2/MYP3 Mon 14:00–14:45 and Wed 14:50–15:35). Grow Getters offers outdoor gardening, and Reading Club and Choir contribute to well-being through social and creative engagement.
