Introduction

The English School of Kyrenia is a private, co-educational school in the Bellapais region just outside central Kyrenia in North Cyprus. It offers a broad British-based curriculum for ages 2 to 18, delivering Cambridge Primary (CIPP) in the Primary School and the Secondary School's British National Curriculum through GCSE/IGCSE qualifications with 16 subject options. In the Sixth Form, students choose between the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and UK A-Levels, with A-Level students taking up to four AS subjects in Year 12 and three A-Levels in Year 13. Lise Diplomasi requirements in Turkish, Cyprus History and Physical Education are integrated to reflect local study within an international framework. The campus features separate buildings for early years, a main building for Years 3-13, and dedicated facilities including the Imagine STEM Centre, an Amphitheatre and a Sixth Form Centre. Uniform Requirement

Uniform is conservative and required. Year 7–11 wear a navy blazer and tie in winter, white shirts and khaki trousers or skirts, with a green polo shirt in summer; plain black or dark brown shoes are worn (plain white trainers allowed in summer). Sixth Form follows formal business dress and a house-colour T-shirt is worn for activities.

Food Options

Food is prepared in-house by our chefs and most meals are oven-baked. Daily options include a hot meal or cold choices such as salads and sandwiches for secondary students.

House System

A house system is used; students wear a house-colour T-shirt for activities. ESK Lions is an extra-curricular sports program.

Discounts and mandatory notice
- Sibling discount: 10% discount applies to the second and all subsequent children.
- Withdrawal notice: Four months' prior written notice is required before removing a child. Failure to give four months' written notice will result in four months' tuition fees being payable in lieu of notice.

Late payment and penalties
- Where fees are not received within 14 days of the due date, a 3% monthly charge on the due amount will be automatically applied and payable. The school reserves the right to exclude students whose fees remain unpaid.

Billing schedule and payment terms
- Payment options for tuition: pay the annual fee in advance or choose 12 instalments. 12 monthly instalments are scheduled as monthly payments (the instalment plan shows payments on the 1st of each month across a 12‑month cycle). All payments are expected to be received by the first day of each payment period.

Fee payment methods and instructions
- Bank transfer / cash bank deposits / standing order: payments can be made to the school's GBP bank accounts. Payment reference must state the child's surname, first name and class; email the bank receipt to accounts@englishschoolkyrenia.org as proof of payment.
- Debit/credit card: card payments can be made at the school office in either GBP or Turkish Lira at the school's daily exchange rate.
- Cash and cheques are no longer accepted in the accounts office for school fees or bus fees (card and bank transfer are the standard methods for tuition and bus fees). (Uniform shop accepts TL, cash, card and cheques — see Uniform section.)

Boarding fees (where applicable)
- Boarding provision is listed as available by official school registries. A published boarding fee schedule is not included in the school's 2026–2027 tuition fee document; boarding rates are therefore not provided in the 2026–2027 tuition schedule. Uniform and other compulsory school items
- The school publishes an itemised uniform order form with prices in Turkish Lira (TL) for individual uniform items, PE kit, bags and stationery. Example prices (TL): Little Learners T‑shirt short TL 700; navy polo TL 850; school blazer TL 3,500; tracksuit items vary between TL 600–2,750 depending on item; stationery and small items listed individually. Payments for uniform purchases are required in TL; uniform payments may be made by cash, credit card or cheque at the uniform point of sale. Unsuitable items may be exchanged; refunds for uniform purchases are not available.

Other costs
- Exam fees, where applicable, are charged separately for older year groups: (I)GCSE exam fees for Year 10–11 and IB/A‑Level exam fees for Year 12–13 are excluded from the published tuition and billed separately.
- Textbook inclusion varies by year group as noted above; additional subject resources, trips, extracurricular activities and optional services may incur separate charges.
- The school applies a 10% sibling discount on tuition for the second and subsequent children.

Refunds and returns
- Registration fee: non‑refundable if the student does not join.
- Withdrawal: failure to provide four months' written notice before a child leaves results in four months' tuition being charged in lieu of notice.

Curriculum

The school teaches Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) in the Primary School. The Secondary School follows the British National Curriculum with GCSE/IGCSE qualifications and 16 subjects of choice. Sixth Form (Years 12–13) offers a choice between the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and UK GCE A-Levels. The academic programme operates on a rotating block schedule. A-Level students take up to four AS-Level subjects in Year 12 and three A-Level subjects in Year 13, with Mathematics taught for six hours per week, and Turkish, English, Cyprus History, Turkish History and Physical Education required to meet the Lise Diplomasi. IB students take six subjects (three Higher Level and three Standard Level); Higher Level classes are four hours per week and Standard Level three hours, and they also study Theory of Knowledge, Turkish, Cyprus History, Turkish History and Physical Education, completing an Extended Essay under supervision.

Student Teacher Ratio

Year 13 cohort typically ranges from 30 to 50 students; smaller class sizes allow more one-to-one interaction with teachers.

Exam Results

IB, A-Level & IGCSE results for 2026 are published. In 2023 there were 52 graduates; all students progressed to Higher Education, with the majority applying to UK and European universities. Post high-school placement shows 94% matriculated to universities and 6% took a gap year. Graduates have attended Imperial College London, University of Pennsylvania, McGill University, University College London, University of Bath, University of Amsterdam, University of Groningen, University of Calgary, Koç University, and Parsons School of Design (Paris).

Community

The House System is a key aspect of student life at ESK, promoting integrity, pride and an inclusive culture. Students are divided into four houses—Hilarion, Othello, Caretta and Alasia. Houses foster community across year groups, with inter-house events such as flagship sports day, inter-house quizzes and dance-offs, plus academic merit points. In Secondary, Houses are led by Student Leaders who foster community, competition and achievement, and students feel part of the ESK family.

Facilities Overview

The school's campus is located in the Bellapais region, outside central Kyrenia in North Cyprus, with the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the mountains to the south. The campus is large, leafy and green, housing multiple buildings for different age groups. It comprises the Little Learners building for Pre-Nursery, the Eco-Building for Nursery to Year 2, and the Main Building for Years 3 to 13. The campus also features the Imagine STEM Centre, an Amphitheatre, a Sixth Form Centre and extensive learning and sports facilities that support both traditional and innovative teaching.

The Imagine STEM Centre is exclusive to ESK and houses science, computer, robotics and virtual reality labs, with modern spaces and technologies to support innovative teaching methods beyond the traditional curriculum. The Main Building contains dedicated ICT, Drama and Music spaces, plus a Library and the Sixth Form Centre. Other learning spaces include the Little Learners building and the Eco-Building for early years.

Admissions

The school offers a British-style education. The English School of Kyrenia operates a rolling admissions process for students aged 2 to 18. Assessment days are scheduled individually with each family to find a mutually convenient date, and there are currently no Open Days. The admissions policy aims to place pupils in an environment where they will thrive and experience success. The Entry Application Form should be submitted to the admissions team together with the following documents: a recent passport-size photograph of the student, and one photograph each of the mother and father; a copy of the student's birth certificate; copies of all ID cards and passports held by the student; copies of all ID cards and passports held by the mother and father; the last school report for Primary applicants or the last two reports for Secondary applicants; and a £150 non-refundable application fee. Scholarships

The EU Scholarship funded by the European Union is awarded to outstanding graduating students; four students were awarded the EU Scholarship in 2023. The school also notes that many graduates receive academic scholarships from various universities around the world, including Queen Mary, University of London; Leeds Conservatoire; McGill University; University of Toronto; Koç University; and Parsons School of Design, among others. These scholarships illustrate university-level financial support received by graduates.
