Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Junior School was established by the British Council in 1944 to provide a British-style education for expatriate children and local families seeking university entry in the UK. The Senior School was founded in 2003 to extend the education into secondary education. In 2007 the Senior School moved to a separate building, and in 2016 the current premises in Latsia were acquired, with the Junior School expanding in 2015 with a new Annex. The Junior and Senior School is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a Board of Governors elected from the parent body and one non-parent, with the educational senior management team responsible for day-to-day running. It educates international and Cypriot students since 1944 and is accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, with inspections in 2016 and 2019; it has been a PGCE training school with the University of Sussex since 2018.

Community

The school promotes the fundamental values of democracy, respect and tolerance and fosters universal principles which enable pupils to contribute to their community and develop self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. Student voice is active in both the Junior and Senior Schools through Student Councils, with campaigns and activities such as environment and climate initiatives, energy-saving drives, and charitable collections. The Senior School Student Council is elected by year group and meets with staff weekly to support student representation. The School has a vibrant House System that encourages leadership and pupil voice, and it is an IB World School authorised to deliver the IB Diploma Programme since September 2025 and a Microsoft Showcase School since 2018.

Parent-Teacher Association

Parents participate through the PTA, which organises events bringing the whole school together. The Junior and Senior School PTAs have been very active over the years, promoting teamwork and parent–teacher involvement to improve the school community and student experience. The PTA supported recent enhancements such as the installation of new playground equipment. In accordance with the Private Schools Legislation of 2019, the Parent Association at the secondary school is being reconfigured and more information will soon be available on this website.
