The International Montessori School Copenhagen is located at Dyregårdsvej 5, 2740 Skovlunde, in the Copenhagen Capital Region. The Preschool opened in February 2023 in the same building as an independent entity. The school offers Preschool (2½–5), Lower and Upper Elementary (5½–12+), and Middle School (12½–15). While the main language of instruction is English, Danish is taught in small groups to support integration into Danish society and daily life. There is a plan to open an Adolescent Program (a Montessori-IB mix) in 2027 if enrollment supports it.
The Montessori curriculum is comprehensive and interconnected, covering math, science, history, geography, and language through an integrated approach. Preschool includes practical life, sensorial activities, language, math, geography and cultural studies, Danish language, science and nature, art, and social skills such as grace, courtesy, and peace. Elementary education includes language, math, geometry, physical geography, cultural geography, history, botany, zoology, astronomy, peace studies, and Danish language, with emphasis on research, discussion, and large-scale projects. Danish is taught in small level-based groups (twice per week in groups such as beginner, intermediate 1 and intermediate 2, or advanced; once per week in even smaller groups of not more than five children) by a Danish teacher who uses drama to engage students. The school aligns Danish Fælles Mål with Montessori pedagogy and plans to open an Adolescent Program in 2027 if enrollment supports it.
International Montessori School Copenhagen (IMS) is an international Montessori school in Skovlunde, Copenhagen, serving ages 3 to 15. The curriculum is Montessori-based, with Preschool (2½–5), Lower and Upper Elementary (5½–12+), and Middle School (12½–15). English is the main language of instruction; Danish is taught as a second language in small, level-based groups. The Preschool program opened in February 2023, and the school later expanded to offer elementary and middle-school programs; in 2023 the Danish Ministry of Education approved IMS's Montessori approach. The campus is in the same building as an independent preschool at Dyregårdsvej 5. The school emphasizes a democratic, value-centered environment and hands-on learning across nine areas in preschool, plus comprehensive subjects in elementary. Danish Fælles Mål align with Montessori pedagogy, and progress is recorded weekly for families via Montessori Compass. An Adolescent Program (Montessori-IB mix) is planned for 2027 if enrollment supports it.
