Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Odense International School is the International Department of Henriette Hørlücks Skole. Henriette Hørlücks Skole was established in 1870. Odense International School provides education for children aged 5–16; its student body includes children from more than 40 nations. All lessons are taught in English. The school is a Cambridge International Examinations Centre.

Community

At Odense International School we invite families to share in learning experiences and socialise through musical winter and summer concerts, theatre performances, picnics, and end-of-term assemblies. Parents who can share professional knowledge or experiences are encouraged to participate; visits have included the University of Southern Denmark's Biology Department, Roulunds Braking, and a family garden to study beehives. Bollywood dancing and meditation have also been part of on-site activities. In September 2019, the first Family Community Night was hosted to connect international families with local clubs, and International Community Odense continues to host this event annually.

Parent-Teacher Association

Two parents from each class volunteer as class representatives. Representatives meet with class teachers and the leadership team one to two times a year to discuss how to foster a positive atmosphere and social interaction on and off campus. Parents arrange class events and support wellbeing initiatives at OIS. One year, two parents arranged a book fair. Parents contribute to special events, including hosting the DISNAC Primary Cross Country and Touch Rugby tournaments and the Primary Winter Hygge Night.
